SPORTS RECAP: Week of 5-30-18

Dundee Scots win sectional track and field crown
MARION--The Dundee boys varsity track and field team won the Section V Class D Championship, Friday, May 25.
William Hall took first in the triple jump (40'4.5"), first in the long jump (21'1.5"), and fourth in the 100 meter dash (11.74). Preston Cole was first in the shot put (41'10.5"). Leif Hoyt won the discus event (124'8"), while Sam Richards was first in the pole vault (11'6").
Matt Wood finished second in the 1600 meter run (4:51.14) and second in the 800 meter run (2:09.41). Billy Bowers took second by judgment in the pole vault (11'6"). Josh Cramer placed third in the 400 meter hurdles (1:00.80). Julian Ortiz was third by judgment in the high jump (5'8").
Gabe Kirkendall placed third in the pentathlon high jump (4'11.75"), fourth in the pentathlon long jump (15'9.5"), fifth in the pentathlon 1500 meter run (4:58.29), fifth in the pentathlon shot put (30'4.25"), and fifth in the pentathlon overall.
Josh Kane finished fourth in the triple jump (38'4.5") and long jump (18'10.25"). Preston Cratsley was fourth in the 200 meter dash (24.47). Austin Brace took fifth in the 400 meter dash (54.56) and fifth in the 200 meter dash (24.48).
The girls team finished 12th overall. Lily Hall was first in the triple jump (33'6"), third in the long jump (14'11.5"), and eighth in the high jump (4'3"). Melina Everetts took 10th in the pole vault (6'0").
Elizabeth Medina was 11th in the long jump (12'10.25"). Madison Everetts placed 12th in the high jump (4'0"). Haille Knapp was 12th in the discus (62'2"), 13th in the long jump (11'11"), and 14th in the shot put (21'4.75").

Hammondsport golf team takes first sectional title
GENESEO--The Hammondsport boys varsity golf team claimed the Section V Class C Championship, Thursday, May 24, the first sectional title win for the Lakers' golf program.
The Hammondsport scored a 371 as a team (best four out of five). Parker Watson and Ben Cole both led with a low of 91. Noah Wilkinson posted a 92. Matthew Cole added 97, while Nigel Snyder had a 112.
The Elba team followed in second overall with a 291 score. Fillmore was third with 414.
Track and field
The Hammondsport boys varsity track and field team took fourth and the girls ninth at the Section V Class D Championship, Friday, May 25.
Thomas Kressly was first in the 3200 meter run (10:32.58) and 3000 meter steeplechase (10:51.49). Tyler Hill took second in the 3200 meter run (10:49.93) and fourth in the 1600 meter run (5:00.95).
Cameron Roote placed second in the long jump (21'.5"), followed by Brayden Whitcomb in third (19'8"). John Wells was 10th in the high jump (5'0"). Dominic Reagan took 11th in the 400 meter hurdles (1:07.97).
For the girls, Lauren Robbins was second in the long jump (15'7"). Julia Bennett was third in the triple jump (31'11.75") and fifth in the shot put (27'9"). Natalie Lowin took fifth in the discus (79'0"), followed by Elissa Martinez in sixth (72'9"). Alliyah Jensen finished fifth in the 100 meter hurdles (20.53). Aubrie Cole placed seventh in the 1500 meter run (5:46.63).

Softball
The Hammondsport-Prattsburgh varsity softball team fell to Lyndonville in the Section V Class D1 quarterfinals, Wednesday, May 23. The final score was 4-2.

Tennis
The Prattsburgh-Hammondsport varsity tennis team fell to Fillmore, 3-2, in sectionals, Friday, May 25.
Colin Drain topped Carter Sisson, 6-3, 6-1. Alek Barter and Bryce Santacroce beat Cordel Nary and Jake Masterson, 6-4, 6-4.
Prattsburgh-Hammondsport defeated Notre Dame in the team sectional semifinals match, Thursday, May 24. The final score was 3-2.
Troy Sanford won against Hayden Chamberlain in singles, 6-3, 6-3. Benjamin Fingar and Rhett Presler beat Isabelle Cooper and Faith Falkowski, 6-4, 6-1. Santacroce and Barter topped Clare Misiak and Ben Lemley, 6-3, 6-0.
The combined tennis team beat Elba in a rain-shortened sectional match, Tuesday, May 22. The final score was 3-0.
Drain won against Devyn Reigle,6-2, 6-0. Fingar and Presler defeated Memphis Chamberlain and Garrett Sinemus, 6-1, 6-3. Barter and Santacroce topped Madison Harrington and Steven Rowcliffe, 6-2, 6-0.

Lacrosse teams advance; three win track titles
HONEOYE FALLS--The Penn Yan boys varsity lacrosse team defeated Bath, 12-4, in the Section V Class D semifinals, Saturday, May 26.
Colton Smith scored four goals, while Conner Fingar added three. Dylan Stape had two goals and one assist. Austin Blumbergs also had two goals. Ayden Mowry earned one goal and two assists. Bryan Duran assisted once. In goal, Jeff Kinyoun earned 10 saves.
Penn Yan is scheduled to play Aquinas in the sectional finals, Wednesday, May 30.
The Mustangs topped Waterloo, 17-2, in the quarterfinals, Wednesday, May 23.
Smith led with five goals and one assist. Fingar posted four goals and four assists. Mowry had three goals and one assist. Blumbergs scored two goals, with three assists. Stape had one goal and one assist, while Mekhi Mahan and Chase Blumbergs both scored once. Devon Gerhardt and Max Brodmann each earned an assist. In the cage, Kinyoun posted two saves.
Girls lacrosse
The Lady Mustangs varsity lacrosse team beat Aquinas in the Section V Class D semifinals, Friday, May 25. Penn Yan advances to the finals against Palmyra-Macedon, Tuesday, May 29. The game was played after press time for this edition.
Hannah Keech led the Aquinas game with eight goals. Elissa Callaway earned four goals and two assists. Sydney Bloom had three goals and five assists. Alli Olevnik scored once and assisted once. Sydney Hulse posted one assist.
Penn Yan beat Gananda in the quarterfinals, Tuesday, May 22. The final score was 15-3.
Bloom posted five goals and one assist. Callaway had four goals, followed by Hulse with two goals. Hanna Brodman, Bre Lane-Tomion, Alison Winslow, and Olevnik all scored once. Lexi Strong assisted once. In goal, Alexandra Cox had eight saves.
Track and field
The Penn Yan girls varsity track and field team was fifth at the Section V Class B championship, Saturday, May 26. The boys finished 15th.
Joddie Decker was first in the 3000 meter run (11:01.79) and fifth in the 1500 meter run (5:06.56). Emma Harling finished first in the shot put (36'.25") and second in the discus (99'0"). Maci Nicholson took first in the 2000 meter steeplechase (7:47.26). Teresa Pietrusinski placed seventh in the discus (87'8").
For the boys, Ben DeMoras was second in the 1600 meter run (4:40.19) and seventh in the 3200 meter run (10:43.02).
Baseball
The Penn Yan varsity baseball team lost to Newark, Thursday, May 24, in the Section V Class B semifinals. The final score was 16-10.
Peyton Schuck was 3-for-4, with three RBIs. Brennan Prather was 2-for-2, with three RBIs and two home runs. Derrick Riviello also earned two hits and an RBI, while Greg Hoke and Clark Simmons each earned one RBI.
The Mustangs topped Haverling, 5-1, in the sectional quarterfinals, Wednesday, May 23.
Matt Moniot posted one hit, with two RBIs. Nick Hoover also earned a hit and an RBI. Hoke, Kyle Miller, Schuck, and Donny McMahon all had one hit.
Riviello had six strikeouts on the mound for Penn Yan.
Softball
The Lady Mustangs varsity softball team lost to Livonia in the first round of Class B sectionals, Wednesday, May 23. The final score was 6-5.
Tennis
The Penn Yan varsity tennis team lost to Dansville, 3-2, Wednesday, May 23.
In singles, Lukas Spears topped James Boula, 6-4, 6-0. The doubles team of Jeremy Fenton and Austin Lafferty won, 6-1, 7-6(7-4).
The Mustangs' Lukas Spears competed in the Section V Class B tournament, Wednesday, May 23. Spears fell to Pittsford Sutherland's Aditya Srinivasan, 10-0, in the first round. The doubles team of Lafferty and Alex Thiesmeyer won in round one against Livonia and then fell to Pittsford Mendon in the quarterfinals.

Planty and Scheffey register wins; tennis takes third
SIDNEY--The Watkins Glen boys and girls varsity track and field teams finished eighth and 10th respectively at the Section IV Class C championship, Wednesday, May 23.
Gabe Planty was first in the 1600 meter run (4:26.03), followed by Aaron Planty in second (4:44.66). Casen Weeden placed seventh in the discus (108'11") and 14th in the 200 meter dash (25.99). Sam Thorsland was 10th in the 3200 meter run (11:21.46). Shawn Joslyn was 11th in the 400 meter dash (56.66), while Max Evans was 13th (57.26). Sean Holland took 14th in the 800 meter run (2:19.29). Nick Wilston finished 15th in the long jump (17'8"). The 1600 meter relay team (Weeden, Evans, Owen Scholtisek, and Joslyn) was fifth in 3:48.70.
For the girls, Isobel Scheffey was first in the 400 meter dash (1:01.59) and 200 meter dash (27.28). Allison Gibson was fifth in the high jump (4'6.01") and eighth in the long jump (14'7.25"). Breanna Carl took fifth in the 1500 meter run (5:42.06) and 10th in the 800 meter run (2:50.39).
Julya Slater was fifth in the steeplechase (9:00.86). Kai Sutterby was seventh in the 800 meter run (2:40.43). Jena Slater finished ninth in the 400 meter hurdles (1:19.81) and ninth in the pole vault (7'6").
The 400 meter relay team (Haley Dean, Gibson, Scheffey, and Jena Slater) was fifth with 55.11.
Girls golf
The Watkins Glen girls varsity golf team took fourth at the Section IV tournament, Tuesday, May 22.
Hanley Elliott led the Senecas with a 93. Gabi Decker posted a 99. Both Elliott and Decker advance to the New York state golf championship.
Tennis
The Watkins Glen varsity tennis team competed in the Interscholastic Athletic Conference (IAC) championship, Thursday, May 24.
Singles players Dylan Morse finished and Clint Craven each were third. The doubles team of Hannah Morse and Jill Cantieni also medaled with a third place bronze medal.
In the girls novice tournament, Ali LaMoreaux won the championship. The second and third doubles teams of Makenna Fraboni and Megan Hazlitt, and Tim Clifford and Kathleen Clifford played. However, Coach Scott Morse said the two teams "fell short in the consolation game, but played well to get there."

Odessa sees first place finishes; Clark qualifies
MARATHON--The Odessa-Montour girls varsity track and field team took second and the boys third at the Section IV Class D championship, Wednesday, May 23.
Kennedey Heichel placed first in the pole vault (9'6") and first in the 400 meter hurdles (1:10.97). Hannah Bruno was second in the triple jump (33'1.25") and third in the 100 meter hurdles (17.68). Nadia Simpson took third in the 100 meter dash (12.91).
For the boys, the 4x100 meter relay team (Noah Angle, Preston Harris, Trey McCarty, and Jacob Zimmer) finished first in 47.36. Zach Elliott won the discus (153'8") and the shot put (48'5.5"). Jacob Zimmer finished third in the 100 meter dash (11.46). Andy Hardford took third in the pole vault (11'0"). Eric Rumsey placed third in the discus (124'0").
Girls golf
Odessa-Montour's girls varsity golf team placed third in the Section IV tournament, Tuesday, May 22.
Gillian Clark led with an 83, qualifying for the New York state championship five years in a row. Elizabeth Dawson posted a 99, followed by Gabby Fazzary with a 107. Catherine Rounds recorded a 112. Eliza Starkweather had a 131.
"Gillian has been hitting the ball well all year it was only a matter of time before she put it all together," said Coach Greg Gavich. "The highlight of the round was a holed out bunker shot for birdie on the difficult par-4 14th hole."
