PITTSFORD--Penn Yan's storied postseason play lived up to its reputation, Wednesday, June 6 in the state semifinal game against Chenango Forks. The Mustangs came from behind to defeat Chenango Forks 10-7 at Growney Stadium on the campus of St. John Fisher. Section 4's Chenango Forks jumped out to an early lead in the game scoring four goals to Penn Yan's one. However, the momentum began to shift in a drastic way in the second quarter as Austin Blumbergs made a shot right before the buzzer and brought the score to 6-4, Penn Yan down by two. The Penn Yan offensive onslaught had begun. Conner Fingar, Dylan Stape and Blumbergs combined to tally six consecutive points for Penn Yan and stamp their ticket to the state finals. Chenango Forks did score one final point with under a minute left in the game, but it was too little too late. Blumbergs ended the day with four goals total. Fingar contributed three goals, while Stape had two. Colton Smith added one goal and four assists. Ayden Mowry recorded two assists. In the cage, Jeff Kinyoun had four saves. The Section V Penn Yan Mustangs will now face the Section 1 Pleasantville Panthers in the state championship game, Saturday, June 9 at 10 a.m. The game is again at St. John Fisher. Pleasantville topped Mattituck in their state semifinal game 20-7.
