Dundee Central holds annual sports awards ceremony
DUNDEE--Athletes from the three sports seasons were honored Wednesday, June 6 at the Dundee Central School gymnasium. A number of students from each sport were honored as well as special individual awards presented. Mackenzie Strait was named the Pauline "Polly" Strait Female Athlete of the Year and William Wylie Hall won the David Summerson Male Athlete Award.
This year's Most Valuable Players included (all in the awards will be in the same sport order): William Bowers (football), Brianne Maloy (girls soccer), Joshua Kane (boys soccer), Ryan Prior (boys basketball), Mackenzie Strait (girls basketball), Isabella Cleary (winter cheer), Kenneth Empson (wrestling), Mercedez Roy (girls bowling), Jared Hartman (boys bowling), Kenneth Empson (baseball), Mackenzie Strait (softball), Hallie Knapp (girls track), Austin Brace (boys track), Elizabeth Medina (volleyball) and Wyatt Jordan (trap shooting).

Penn Yan Academy celebrates athletes with awards
PENN YAN--Penn Yan Academy held the 52nd Annual Sports Awards program, Monday, June 11. Sydney Bloom and Dylan Stape took the top honors of the night winning the Girls and Boys Coaches' Trophies.

Scholar athletes recognized at Penn Yan
PENN YAN--Penn Yan Academy and the New York State Public High School Athletic Association recognized student athletes, Thursday, June 7 at Penn Yan. Both team and individual awards were presented. Scholar Athlete teams must be a varsity team, with the minimum team composite grade average of 90 percent for 75 percent of the roster. Each individual with a 90 percent or higher individual GPA qualifies for this award and receives a recognition pin while the school receives a certificate for display.
The teams include:
Boys Tennis: 90.983 percent - Alexander Thiesmeyer, Lukas Spears, Connor Hunter and Nicholas Egburtson.
Baseball: 93.293 percent - Donald McMahon, Matthew Moniot, Nicholas Hoover, Peyton Schuck, Kyle Miller, Joshua Smith and Gregory Hoke, Jr.
Softball: 92.864 percent - Kayla Andersen, Melanie Gleason, Serina Sheradin, Shelby Woodard, Kiana Larham, Taylor Hight and Adriana Rodriguez.
Girls Lacrosse: 90.441 percent - Brady Logan, Rachel Wheeler, Sydney Bloom, Megan Griffin, Allison Dixon and Hannah Keech.
If a team does not meet the scholar athlete team criteria, the individuals with a GPA greater than or equal to 90 percent are eligible to receive a pin.
The award winners include: Tyler Griffin, Clay Kinyoun, Conner Fingar and Austin Blumbergs (Boys Lacrosse); Allyssa Johnson, Abigail Miller, Emma Harling and Joddie Decker (Track and Field); Benedict DeMoras, Lee Miller, Daytona Bailey, Peyton Silliman and Daniel Jiang (Track and Field).
Nicholson runs in state final
CICERO-Penn Yan's Maci Nicholson competed in the New York State Track and Field Championships at Cicero-North Syracuse High School last week. Nicholson ran in division two and finished the 2000 Meter Steeplechase in 8:04.51. She was 31st overall and 15th in her division.

Odessa-Montour holds annual awards ceremony
Odessa-Montour athletes were recognized for their dedication and outstanding achievements, Thursday, June 7 at the school auditorium. Individuals in each sport were recognized as well as the athletes of the year. Above, Gillian Clark and Curtis Harris were awarded the Harold Lynch Athlete of the Year title.
O-M's Elliott fifth at states
CICERO--Odessa-Montour's Zach Elliott competed in the New York State Track and Field Championships at Cicero-North Syracuse High School last week.
Elliott threw the discus in division two. His best distance was 140' 7" good for fifth place.

LaMoreaux signs with Lycoming College
Watkins Glen basketball player Ryanna LaMoreaux signed with Lycoming College, Friday, June 8 in a special recognition at the Watkins library. Lycoming College, in Williamsport, Pennsylvania competes in Division III and currently has around 1,400 students. LaMoreaux saw sectional basketball titles at Watkins Glen as well as winning the state championship in 2017, the school's first.
