Penn Yan boys basketball falls to Waterloo, 56-51
PENN YAN--The Penn Yan boys varsity basketball team suffered a loss to Waterloo, Friday, Dec. 14. The final score was 56-51. Colton Smith led with 12 points for the Mustangs.
The Penn Yan boys beat Mynderse, 51-32, in a home game, Tuesday, Dec. 11.
Girls basketball
The Lady Mustangs varsity basketball team fell to Waterloo, 64-53, Friday, Dec. 14.
Peyton Comfort scored 12 points, with four rebounds and three steals. Joddie Decker and Jammie Decker both added 10 points, while Sierra Harrison posted nine points and five rebounds. Jenna Curbeau contributed eight points, with three rebounds. Ashley Sisson had seven points and four rebounds. Haylea Langan scored five points, followed by Hayley Andersen with two.
Penn Yan lost to Mynderse, Tuesday, Dec. 11. The final score was 69-31.
Harrison led with 12 points, three rebounds, and three steals. Comfort netted nine points, with four rebounds. Andersen added six points, while Logan Broome and Taylor Hight both scored two points.
Bowling
The Penn Yan varsity bowling teams both topped Waterloo, Wednesday, Dec. 12.
Zach Gurba bowled a 597 for the boys. Cameron Bassage added a 557. Jon Mashewske had a 516, while Connor Harmon contributed a 512. Trenton Samaltuski earned a 501.
For the girls, Kari Ayers had a 500. Emily Augustine bowled a 467. Brandee Ellis posted a 465. Emilie Thomas followed with a 453.
The Mustangs bowling teams both blanked Harley Allendale Columbia, 5-0, Monday, Dec. 10.
For the boys, Bassage posted a 618. Harmon added a 561, while Mashewske had a 552. Gurba contributed a 500.
Ayers led the girls with a 597. Thomas added a 501, while Ellis earned a 493 and Aysa Crocker had a 450. Augustine posted a 447.
Wrestling
The Marcus Whitman-Penn Yan varsity wrestling team lost a close match by a tiebreaker to Williamson-Marion-Sodus, Thursday, Dec. 13. The final score was 35-34.
Jayden Reed (126) beat Zach David by decision 15-13. Justin Smith (132) won against Carter Schubert by decision, 2-1. Jarred Calice (138) pinned Ian Buckles in 1:07. Chad Smith (160) won by major decision, 12-0. Aiden Mowry (113), Charlie Burgess (145), and Dylan Howell (152) won by forfeit.
The combined wrestling team topped Caledonia Mumford, 54-25, Tuesday, Dec. 11.
Mason Peterrson (220) beat Nicholas Christina by decision, 6-3. Isabel Campbell (106) pinned Cassidy Colf in 0:42. Mowry (113) topped Jayden Thompson by decision 10-4. Calice (145) won over Seth Gominiak in 0:54. Howell (160) pinned Nathanle James in 1:55. Chad Smith (170) beat Cameron Letson by pin in 3:11. Aden Hurlburt (182) won against Nick Roberts in 3:46. Tyler Howe (195) beat Nick Lenhardt in 2:12. Jamie Fry (285) and Justin Smith (138) won by forfeit.

Dundee basketball loses two; Hall takes first
DUNDEE--The Dundee boys varsity basketball team fell to Bloomfield, Thursday, Dec. 13. The final score was 75-47.
Preston Cratsley recorded 15 points and Michael Hand 10.
Dundee's basketball team was beaten by Marcus Whitman, 82-31, Tuesday, Dec. 11.
Isaac Seamans scored 13 points.
Girls basketball
The Dundee girls varsity basketball team lost to Bloomfield in a close game, 45-43, Friday, Dec. 14.
Mackenzie Strait led the Lady Scots with 16 points, seven assists, and eight steals. Megan Sutherland posted 11 points. Dalaine Nolan earned 10 points, while Makenzie Cratsley had four points and 16 rebounds.
Dundee fell to Marcus Whitman, Tuesday, Dec. 11. The final score was 37-27.
Cratsley scored eight points with eight rebounds and six steals. Sutherland also added eight points. Strait posted six points and four steals, followed by Hallie Knapp with three points and six rebounds.
Indoor track
Two Dundee athletes competed with the Watkins Glen indoor track team at the Finger Lakes Invitational, Saturday, Dec. 15, held at SUNY Cortland.
Lily Hall was first in the long jump (15'1.50") and first in the triple jump (34'6", a personal record). Matt Wood placed second in the 3200 meter (10:25.10, a personal record) and fourth in the 600 meters (1:34.87).
Wrestling
The Dundee varsity wrestling team took sixth at the Waterloo Duals, Saturday, Dec. 15. The Scots finished with a 0-5 record.
Bowling
The Dundee girls and boys varsity bowling teams topped Bloomfield, Wednesday, Dec. 12. The final scores were 5-0 and 4-1, respectively.
Leading the girls was Mercedes Roy with a 415. Jaedyn Brewer followed with a 411. Sam Hunt recorded a 377. Edele Morgan posted a 357.
Stephan Smith bowled a 540, while Connor Muck had a 493. Hunter Murphy added a 481. Matthew Pollack posted a 453.
The Scots' bowling teams both fell to Wayne, Tuesday, Dec. 11.
The girls lost, 3-2. Morgan posted a 411, followed by Brewer with a 401. Roy added a 389. Kayle Andrews had a 370.
The score for the boys was 5-0. Muck led with a 644. Murphy added a 592, followed by Stephan Smith with a 577.

Lakers top Scio, 60-22
HAMMONDSPORT--The Hammondsport girls varsity basketball team defeated Scio 60-22, Monday, Dec. 17.
Destiny Hammond led with 18 points and seven rebounds. Jillian Underhill followed with 11 points, six assists and five rebounds. Ana Salom added 10 points and recorded three blocks and steals.
Boys basketball
The Lakers' boys varsity basketball team lost to Romulus, Monday, Dec. 10. The final score was 43-42.
Parker Watson scored 17 points, with eight steals and five rebounds. CJ Hill earned 12 points and nine rebounds.

Odessa-Montour girls pick up fourth win over Candor
ODESSA--The Odessa-Montour girls varsity basketball team beat Candor, Friday, Dec. 14. The final score was 42-35.
Olivia Grover led with 18 points, 14 rebounds, and five blocks. Sara Gardner scored 13 points. Kennedey Heichel had seven points and seven assists. Grace Vondracek posted three points, while Kara Reese earned one point.
With the win, Odessa's record is now 4-1.
Odessa defeated Tioga, 48-25, Tuesday, Dec. 11. Alexis Saunders had 11 points, five steals, and three blocks. Gardner also scored 11 points. Grover posted nine points and 10 rebounds, while Vondracek earned nine points, six steals, and eight rebounds. Heichel added six points and six assists. Hunter Daugherty scored two points.
"We played hard on the defensive end for three quarters and that pulled us through some cold shooting spots," said Coach Greg Gavich. "We did get into a better flow at times on the offensive end of the floor as the game went on though."
Boys basketball
The Odessa-Montour boys varsity basketball team topped Candor, 55-44, in a conference win, Friday, Dec. 14.
Zach Elliott posted 17 points, going 9-for-11 at the free throw line. Devon Mahaney scored 15 points. Jared Rumsey added nine points and was 4-for-5 at the free throw line. Preston Harris added six points, while Paden Grover had five points. Derrick Lewis scored a three-point shot.
With the win, the Indians' record is 2-4.
Odessa lost to Tioga, 58-46, Tuesday, Dec. 11.
Elliott and Mahaney both scored 10 points. Lewis added nine points, followed by Grover with eight. Harris posted five points. Deshawn Johnson earned four points.
Boys swimming
The Odessa-Montour boys varsity swim team topped Greene, 90-58, Monday, Dec. 10.
The 200 medley relay team (Tyler Carson, Caleb Thomas, Jake Mayette, and Johnny Niedermaier) placed first in 2:06.85. The 400 free relay team (Niedermaier, Carson, Micah Brewster, and Bailey Hornbrook) took first with 4:26.43.
Brett Walters was first in the 100 breast (1:21.23) and first in the 50 free (25.61). Hornbrook finished first in the 200 free (2:19.11) and second in the 100 free (59.55). Mayette was first in the 100 fly (1:09.80) and second in the 200 IM (2:41.02). Carson took first in the 100 back (1:18.59). Brewster placed second in the 200 free (2:22.16) and 500 free (6:44.19). Justin Ruocco finished second in the 100 back (1:23.67), while Thomas was second in the 100 breast (1:27.78).
Bowling
The Odessa-Montour girls varsity bowling team blanked Groton, 4-0, Friday, Dec. 14.
Pixie Kinner led with a 475. Jackie Vincent followed with a 443. Jana Arias bowled a 377. Dez Minnier had a 359, while Taryn Hoyt earned a 340.
The boys fell, 4-0. Eric Rumsey posted a 437. Dom Elliott added a 326.
The Indians' girls topped Tioga, Tuesday, Dec. 11. The final score was 4-0.
Vincent bowled a 560. Kinner earned a 496, followed by Arias with a 427. Hoyt contributed a 385.
The boys lost to Tioga, 4-0. Rumsey led with a 459. Austin Hoyt posted a 370, followed by Elliott with a 348.

Watkins Glen defeats Newark Valley, falls to Waverly
WATKINS GLEN--The Watkins Glen girls varsity basketball team won against Newark Valley, 51-35, Saturday, Dec. 15.
Taylor Kelly led with 15 points, including a pair of three-point shots and four rebounds. Hannah Morse added 10 points, four rebounds, three steals, and five assists. Danielle Leszyk and Kelsey Kernan both scored eight points. Adrienna Solomon posted six points and 10 rebounds.
With the win, the Senecas' record is 4-1.
Watkins' girls fell to Waverly, 60-48, Tuesday, Dec. 11.
Kelly scored 18 points, with a pair of three-point shots, two rebounds, one steal, and one assist. Leszyk earned 12 points, with four three-point shots, two steals, and one assist. Morse posted 10 points, two steals, and eight assists. Solomon added four points, five rebounds, and one assist.
Boys basketball
The Watkins Glen boys varsity basketball team lost a close game at Waverly, Tuesday, Dec. 11. The final score was 63-62 in overtime.
Indoor track
The Watkins Glen varsity indoor track teams competed at the Finger Lakes Invitational at SUNY Cortland, Saturday, Dec. 15.
Kaylana Rekczis was third in the 1500 meter race walk (9:24.28). Breanna Carl placed sixth in the 1500 meters (5:42.73). Victoria Bantin finished eighth in the 55 meter hurdles (10.99, a personal record). Haley Dean was ninth in the 300 meters (47.99, a personal record).
Kai Sutterby took 12th in the 1000 meters (3:32.11). Jill Cantieni was 20th in the shot put (20'2"), while Madison Hansen was 20th in the 300 meters (55.31). Cierra Barber finished 25th in the 55 meters (9.43). The 4x400 meter relay team (Carl, Cantieni, Dean, and Sutterby) finished eighth with a time of 5:02.
Lawrence Majors was eighth in the 600 meters (1:39.17, a personal record) and 19th in the 300 meters (45.75). Nick Wilston was 14th in the 55 meters (7.59). Gabe Planty finished 14th in the shot put (25'5.25").
Sam Thorsland placed 15th in the 1600 meters (5:24.19, a personal record). Dylan Nguyen was 26th in the 1600 meters (6:00.16, a personal record). Cale Sutterby took 27th in the 55 meters (8.69).
Bowling
The Senecas' boys and girls varsity bowling teams each blanked Lansing, 4-0, Friday, Dec. 14.
For the boys, Wyatt Brower posted a 586. Wrett Brower bowled a 576. H. Nathaniel Rose added a 548, while Casen Weeden earned a 514.
Nancy Jackson bowled a 449 for the girls. Hayley Cornish added a 440. Alyiah Clink-Bentley contributed a 417, followed by Makenzie Kellogg with 400.
The Watkins Glen boys varsity bowling team topped Elmira Notre Dame, 3-1, Tuesday, Dec. 11.
Rose had a 548 score. Weeden added a 531. Wyatt Brower earned a 504, followed by RJ Bannon with a 494. Wrett Brower posted a 489.
The girls were beaten, 3-1. Nikole Vandyke led with a 507. Cornish contributed a 452. Jackson bowled a 406. Makenzie Kellogg posted a 387, while Clink-Bentley had a 360.
Boys swimming
The Watkins Glen boys varsity swim team lost to Corning, 99-71, Thursday, Dec. 13.
Ben Swinnerton placed first in the 100 breaststroke (1:32.42) and third in the 200 IM (3:12.70). Steven Gublo took first in the 100 backstroke (1:26.24), followed by Dan Ely in second (1:44.48). Colby Thurston finished second in the 100 breaststroke (1:48.11). Nathaniel Wickham was third in the 100 freestyle (55.98).
Gaetono Williams placed third in the 100 breaststroke (2:41.27). Daine Butler was fourth in the 50 freestyle (27.86) and fourth in the 100 butterfly (1:25.83). Georgio Fazzary took fourth in diving (145.15). Scott Brubaker finished fourth in the 500 freestyle (6:59.79).
The Senecas were beaten by Lansing, 88-86, Tuesday, Dec. 11.
James Jensen was first in the 50 freestyle (34.54). Scott Brubaker placed first in the 500 freestyle (6:56.40). Fazzary took first in diving (130.75), followed by Gabe Santos in second (123.30).
Owen Bingham was second in the 100 butterfly (2:01.46). Butler took second in the 100 breaststroke (1:25.39).
