Lady Senecas defeat Cooperstown Hawkeyes, 60-49
BINGHAMTON--The Watkins Glen girls varsity basketball team claimed the Class C Regional Championship, Sunday, March 10, and advances to the New York state Class C semifinals. The Senecas defeated Cooperstown, 60-49 at the Floyd L. Maines Veterans Memorial Arena in Binghamton. Leading Watkins Glen was Taylor Kelly with 20 points and three rebounds. Hannah Morse netted 17 points, including a pair of three-point shots, eight assists, six rebounds, and three steals. Danielle Leszyk posted nine points and six rebounds. Adrienna Solomon scored seven points, with seven rebounds. Jena Slater added four points, while Aislinn Klemann posted a three-point shot and two rebounds. Kelsey Kernan also earned two rebounds and two steals. Watkins will play against Millbrook, Friday, March 15, in the Class C state semifinals at Hudson Valley Community College. Section 9's Millbrook defeated Haldane 60-44 in the subregional and Pierson/Bridgehampton/Shelter Island in the regional 55-26. On the other side of the bracket, Section 2 Cambridge and Section 6 Maple Grove are also playing in the Class C semifinal Friday. The winner is scheduled to play for the championship, Saturday, March 16 at 7 p.m. The game is again at Hudson Valley Community College. Tickets are $8 online or $10 onsite.
