SPORTS RECAP: Week of 5-15-19

Dundee boys win division, track hosts invitational
DUNDEE--Dundee hosted the Last Chance Invitational, Friday, May 10.
For the boys, Matt Wood won the 800 meter run (2:07.18) and was first in the 1600 meter run (4:56.14). Nic Laursen was first in the long jump (19'9") and second in the 100 meter dash (11.88).
Leif Hoyt took first in the discus (135'10"). Preston Cole placed first in the shot put (41'0") and second in the discus (126'6"). Preston Cratsley finished first in the triple jump (37'5.25").
In the pentathlon, Gabe Kirkendall was first in the shot put (10.02 meters), second in the high jump (1.67 meters), and third in the 1500 meter run (5:15.11).
In the pole vault, Peyton Boudinot and Paul Knapp both tied for second (8'6"). Josh Cramer took second in the 110 meter hurdles (18.72) and third in the triple jump (35'2"). Austin Gibson was second in the shot put (38'10").
Austin Brace was third in the long jump (18'7.25"). Brady Richardson took third in the 200 meter dash (24.81). Justin Wood placed third in the 400 meter dash (56.81). Steven Webster finished third in the 800 meter run (2:18.90). Tate Hoyt was third in the shot put (38'9.5").
For the girls, Lily Hall won the long jump event (15'3") and was first in the triple jump (34'9.25"). Hallie Knapp placed second in the discus (83'7"). Melina Everetts tied for second in the pole vault (6'6").
In the pentathlon, Ella Pollack placed first in the high jump (1.32 meters), first in the long jump (4.27 meters), third in the 800 meter run (3:04.99), third in the 100 meter hurdles (22.12), and third in the shot put (5.87 meters).
Softball
Dundee's varsity softball team faced, and lost to, Marcus Whitman in a double header, Wednesday, May 8.
The first score was 5-2, Marcus Whitman. Megan Sutherland pitched with eight strikeouts. At bat, Mackenzie Strait was 2-for-3.
The second game was lost, 9-0. Mercedez Roy was 2-for-2.
The Lady Scots' defeated Naples, 15-7, Monday, May 6.
Sutherland struck out 10 batters. Strait was 5-for-5, with a home run.
Baseball
The Dundee baseball team lost two away games to Honeoye, Thursday, May 9. One game was 12-0 and the other 11-1. No other statistics were reported from the games.

Penn Yan baseball loses to Newark, beats Geneva
PENN YAN--The Mustangs' varsity baseball team fell to Newark, 6-5, Friday, May 10.
Peyton Schuck and Clark Simmons both recorded two hits, while Brennan Prather had one. Simmons also earned one RBI.
On the pitcher's mound, Prather struck out six batters, while Simmons struck out two.
Penn Yan beat Geneva, Wednesday, May 8. The final score was 6-3.
The Mustangs had four hits, one from each Schuck, Andrew Rossi, Andrew Garren, and Tyler Bouchard. Mason MacKerchar, Schuck, and Bouchard each earned one RBI.
The Penn Yan baseball team lost to Mynderse, 3-2, in extra innings, Tuesday, May 7.
Schuck had two hits, while Simmons and MacKerchar both had one. Schuck and Simmons also posted an RBI each.
Softball
The Penn Yan varsity softball team fell to Mynderse, Saturday, May 11. The final score was 11-5. With the loss, Penn Yan's record is 4-11.
The Lady Mustangs were beaten by Geneva in a home game, Wednesday, May 8. The final score was 15-2.
Boys lacrosse
The Mustangs' boys varsity lacrosse team topped West Seneca East, 17-7, Saturday, May 11.
Ayden Mowry led with six goals and one assist. Colton Smith scored three goals. Devon Gerhardt posted two goals and six assists. Conner Fingar and Max Brodmann both scored twice, while Fingar also had two assists. Mekhi Mahan and Carter Earl each had one goal. Chase Blumbergs assisted twice. In the goal, Jeff Kinyoun had five saves, while Griffin Emerson earned one.
Penn Yan defeated Geneva, Thursday, May 9. The final score was 12-6.
Smith and Mowry both had three goals and one assist. Fingar scored two points, and assisted three times, while Clay Kinyoun also scored twice. Blumbergs and Gerhardt each posted one goal and one assist. Jeff Kinyoun made seven saves.
Girls lacrosse
The Penn Yan girls varsity lacrosse team fell to Honeoye Falls-Lima, Friday, May 10. The final score was 13-4.
Hayley Andersen had three goals and one assist, while Sydney Hulse scored once.
The Lady Mustangs beat Waterloo, 8-5, in an away game, Wednesday, May 8.
Reilly Cohick and Allison Winslow both scored two goals. Individual goals came from Grace Ledgerwood (with three assists), Andersen (with two assists), Sydney Hulse (with one assist), and Bre Lane-Tomion. In the goal, Alexandra Cox had three saves.
Penn Yan topped Geneva, 15-5, Monday, May 6.
Andersen led with six goals, followed by Hulse with five. Winslow added two goals and an assist. Lane-Tomion scored and assisted once. Cohick also earned a goal. Ledgerwood added two assists. Cox posted six saves.
Tennis
The Mustangs' varsity tennis team was defeated by Geneva, 5-0, Friday, May 10.
The scores in the singles matches were: Lukas Spears, 6-0, 6-0; Brian Hollister, 6-1, 6-0; and Cole Egburtson, 6-2, 6-2.
In doubles, the scores were: Jeremy Fenton and Connor Hunter, 6-2, 6-4; and Spencer Christensen and Reid Castner, 6-1, 6-1.
The Penn Yan team lost to Honeoye, 3-2, in an away game, Wednesday, May 8.
Penn Yan earned its two wins from the first two singles matches. Spears won against Ethan Ball, 6-4, 6-4. Hollister beat Sam Berger, 6-2, 6-1.
Track and field
The Penn Yan varsity track and field teams took part in Dundee's Last Chance Invitational, Friday, May 10.
For the girls, Joddie Decker won the 800 meter run (2:41.96), took second in the 1500 meter run (5:35.20), and was third in the 400 meter dash (1:09.05). Alexxis Henry was first in the high jump (4'4"), third in the 100 meter hurdles (19.72), and third in the 400 meter hurdles (1:26.13).
Gracie Murphy placed first in the 2000 meter steeplechase (8:11.57) and third in the triple jump (30'6.5"). Jaina Doyle took second in the 2000 meter steeplechase (8:18.41) and third in the 1500 meter run (5:54.13). Maci Nicholson finished second in the 400 meter hurdles (1:24.50). Rachel Wheeler took third in the 800 meter run (2:56.74).
In the boys pentathlon, Dominic Lafferty was first in the long jump (5.35m), second in the 110 meter hurdles (18.75), third in the high jump (1.62 meters), fourth in the 1500 meter run (5:15.82), and fourth in the shot put (8.6 meters)
David Young was third in the 1600 meter run (5:18.89). Daniel Jiang took fourth in the triple jump (34'2"). James Tette was sixth in the 1600 meter run (5:37.12).
The Mustangs competed in the Wayne-Finger Lakes Division 1 championship, Tuesday, May 7. The girls placed six and the boys seventh.
For the girls, Decker was second in the 3000 meter run (11:17.57), third in the 1500 meter run (5:15.77), and sixth in the 800 meter run (2:42.14). Murphy took third in the 3000 meter run (11:32.57) and fifth in the triple jump (27'10").
For the boys, Lafferty was third in the high jump (5'8"). Jiang placed sixth in the triple jump (34'0"). Young took sixth in the 3200 meter run (11:15.27).

Hammondsport competes at Dundee meet
DUNDEE--The Hammondsport varsity track and field teams traveled to Dundee for the Last Chance Invitational, Friday, May 10.
For the boys, Thomas Kressly placed first in the 3000 meter steeplechase (10:31.13). John Wells tied for first in the high jump (5'4"). Nevin Davis was second in the 400 meter dash (56.41).
Eli Hill was second in the 1600 meter run (4:56.62). Lane Simpson took second in the 400 meter hurdles (1:06.98). Joey Miller was fourth in the high jump (5'2").
For the girls, Alivia Phenes placed first in the pentathlon 100 meter hurdles (18.97), second in the 800 meter run (3:00.79), second in the long jump (4.06 meters), second in the shot put (6 meters), and third in the high jump (1.21 meters).
Jillian Underhill was second in the 100 meter hurdles (18.18). Aubrie Cole took third in the high jump (4'2") and fourth in the 1500 meter run (5:55.26). Ana Salom finished fourth in the shot put (22'7").
Golf
Hammondsport's varsity golf team topped both Wellsville and Hornell in a tri-meet, Thursday, May 9.
Parker Watson had a 42. Ben Cole earned a 48, while Cooper Watson had a 51. Matthew Cole posted a 56 and Noah Wilkinson a 58.
The Lakers beat Jasper-Troupsburg, Wednesday, May 8.
Watson and Nigel Snyder both led with a match-low of 46 strokes. Matthew Cole posted a 50. Wilkinson added a 53, while John Wright had a 55.
Tennis
The Prattsburgh-Avoca-Hammondsport varsity tennis team blanked Bath, 5-0, Friday, May 10.
Colin Drain won against Dequan Jones, 6-0, 6-0. Nolan Randall topped Brianna Sinsebox, 6-1, 6-1. Ryan Stanford defeated Victoria Cleveland, 7-5, 6-2.
Jeremiah Hubbard and Elijah Lenhard beat Arlene Yahn and Braelynne Seager, 6-1, 6-1. Isabelle Beecher and Angelo Ferrara won against Rae McDonald and Erin Draper, 6-0, 6-2.
The combined tennis team beat Addison, 4-1, in an away game, Wednesday, May 8.
Drain defeated Aiden Green, 6-0, 6-1. Randall won against Marshall Harding, 6-1, 6-4. Stanford and doubles team Beecher and Ferrara all won by forfeit.

Seneca Indians lose to Notre Dame; softball wins
WATKINS GLEN--The Seneca Indians varsity baseball team lost to Notre Dame, 5-2, Wednesday, May 8.
Josiah Wysocki earned two hits. Sean Kelly had two walks. On the pitcher's mound, Isaac McIlroy struck out one.
The combined baseball team defeated Trumansburg, 8-5, Monday, May 6.
Austin Voorheis posted three hits, while Johnny Niedermaier and McIlroy each had two. Niedermaier and Hunter Holley both earned two RBIs. On the pitcher's mound, Caleb Thomas had seven strikeouts.
Softball
The Odessa-Montour varsity softball team topped Watkins Glen, 6-2, Friday, May 10.
Isabel Foote earned three hits at bat and had one RBI. Lydia Lynch was 1-for-3, with two RBIs. Grace Vondracek was 2-for-2 and Emma Lodge was 1-for-3, both with an RBI. Sam Sipes also registered a hit. On the pitcher's mound, Vondracek struck out 17.
The Indians fell to Candor, 1-0, Monday, May 6.
On the pitcher's mound, Vondracek struck out 23 batters. Foote and Lynch both registered two hits. Dezirae Minnier was 1-for-2 and Vondracek was also 1-for-4. Lynch and Vondracek each posted doubles.
Track and field
The Odessa-Montour girls were second and the boys third at the Groton Invitational, Saturday, May 11.
Kennedey Heichel won the girls 100 meter hurdles (16.35) and 400 meter hurdles (1:14.75). Tori Brewster won the long jump (15' 3").
Zach Elliott recorded wins in both the discus and shot put, with throws of 146'6" and 47'11.5", respectively. Payden Grover was also first in the high jump (5"10").
Golf
The Odessa-Montour varsity golf team fell to Thomas A. Edison, 286-291, Monday, May 6.
Noah Hollenbeck led with a 48. Brett Walters added a 57, followed by Eliza Starkweather with a 59. Alex Willette shot a 63. Austin Hoyt earned a 65.
Tennis
The Indians' varsity tennis team suffered a loss to the Senecas, Monday, May 6. The final score was 7-0.
In singles, the losing scores were: Dylan Von Neida, 6-3, 6-2; Rhys Stermer, 6-1, 6-1; Sara Gardner, 6-0, 6-0; and Isabella Arlington, 6-0, 6-0.
The doubles scores were: Jacy Knapp and Kaylea Simmons, 6-1, 6-1; Marissa Marsh and Cheianne Webster, 6-1, 6-0; and Shania Austin and Manuela Buffo, 6-0, 6-0.

Watkins Glen competes at Dundee; tennis wins
DUNDEE--The Watkins Glen varsity track and field teams competed at the Dundee Last Chance Invitational, Friday, May 10.
For the boys, Max Evans took first in the pentathlon, scoring 2501 with his finishes in the five events, beating the previous school record set by Travis Waite in 2008. In the pentathlon events, Evans placed first in the 1500 meter run (4:52.29), first in the 110 meter hurdles (18.18), first in the high jump (1.71 meters), third in the long jump (5.14 meters), and third in the shot put (9.03 meters).
Jordan Avery tied for first in the high jump (5'4"), took second in the 200 meter dash (24.79), and third in the 100 meter dash (11.90). Casen Weeden was third in the discus (113'9"). Sam Thorsland took fourth in the 800 meter run (2:19.32) and fourth in the 1600 meter run (5:22.39). Tim Clifford was fourth in the 400 meter hurdles (1:16.07). Cale Sutterby tied for fourth in the pole vault (8'0").
For the girls, Jena Slater finished first in the pole vault (7'6"). Kai Sutterby placed second in the pentathlon, first in the pentathlon 800 meter run (2:49.97), first in the pentathlon shot put (7.8 meters), second in the pentathlon high jump (1.26 meters), third in the pentathlon long jump (3.87 meters), and fourth in the pentathlon 100 meter hurdles (22.13).
Breanna Carl was third in the 2000 meter steeplechase (8:59.46). Haley Dean was third in the long jump (14'.25"), fourth in the 200 meter dash (29.44), and fourth in the high jump (4'0").
At the same time, Watkins' Gabe Planty was one of eight Section IV athletes competing in the 1600 meter run at the Fast Times Invitational, Friday, May 10. Planty placed second, with a personal best of 4:24.35.
The Watkins boys track and field team placed third and the girls fourth at the Interscholastic Athletic Conference (IAC) South Divisional meet, Monday, May 6.
Nick Wilston placed first in the triple jump and first in the long jump. Evans took first in the high jump and third in the 400 meter run. Planty was first in the 800 meter run. Weeden was first in the discus.
Slater finished second in the pole vault. Dean placed third in the long jump. Carl was third in the 3000 meter run. Kaylana Rekczis was fourth in the 3000 meter run. Madelyn Suddaby took fourth in the triple jump, with a personal record of 28'3.5".
Softball
The Senecas' varsity softball team fell to Odessa-Montour, Friday, May 10. The final score was 6-2.
Madyson Simpson was 1-for-2, with one RBI. Watkins' second hit came from Kelsey Kernan. On the pitcher's mound, Claudia Parker struck out five batters.
Lacrosse
The Senecas' varsity lacrosse team suffered a loss to Marcus Whitman, 10-6, Friday, May 10.
Joe Chedzoy scored four points. Jake DeJong and Dawson Wade both earned one point each.
Watkins' lacrosse team lost to Bath, Tuesday, May 7. The final score was 15-3. Avery Watson, Wade, and Chedzoy each scored once.
The Senecas fell to Dryden, 12-5, Monday, May 6. Chedzoy had two goals. Sam Smith, Watson, and DeJong also scored one apiece. In goal, Connor Novinsky earned 12 saves.
Tennis
The Watkins Glen varsity tennis team blanked Odessa-Montour, 7-0, Monday, May 6.
Nathaniel Wickham topped Dylan Von Neida, 6-3, 6-2. Dylan Morse beat Rhys Stermer, 6-1, 6-1. Clint Craven won against Sara Gardner, 6-0, 6-0. Peter Sandritter defeated Isabella Arlington, 6-0, 6-0.
Jill Cantieni and Hannah Morse secured a win against Jacy Knapp and Kaylea Simmons, 6-1, 6-1. Alexandria LaMoreaux and Bryson Simmons topped Marissa Marsh and Cheianne Webster, 6-1, 6-0. Kathleen Clifford and Enkang Lin defeated Shania Austin and Manuela Buffo, 6-0, 6-0.
