SPORTS RECAP: Week of 5-22-19

Track competes at IAC meet; Seneca Indians lose
TRUMANSBURG--The Watkins Glen varsity track and field teams both took seventh at the Interscholastic Athletic Conference (IAC) Large Schools Championship, Thursday, May 16 and Friday, May 17.
For the boys, Gabe Planty won first in the division and first overall for the 800 meter run (2:00.91 minutes). Casen Weeden placed second in the large school division of the discus (111'9") and fourth overall. He was also fourth in the shot put (38'10.5") large school division and sixth overall. Max Evan's 5'8" high jump was good for a second-place division finish. Nick Wilston took fifth in the triple jump (38'11", a personal record).
For the girls, Breanna Carl finished sixth in the division and seventh overall in the 2000 meter steeplechase (9:02.88). Haley Dean took sixth in the large school long jump, 10th overall (14'1.25"). Jena Slater tied for 6th in the pole vault for the large schools and seventh overall.
Seneca Indians baseball
The Seneca Indians baseball team lost to Tioga 11-0, Friday, May 17. Caleb Thomas had the only hit for the combined Watkins Glen and Odessa-Montour team.

Odessa girls win two games; track takes first
ODESSA--The Odessa-Montour varsity softball team topped Newfield, Friday, May 17. The final score was 18-3.
Isabel Foote was 2-for-4, with three RBIs, a double, and a triple. Grace Vondracek was 2-for-3, with two RBIs and a triple. Lydia Lynch was also 2-for-3, with three RBIs. McKennah Lott posted two hits, while Jolynn Minnier, Dezirae Minnier, and Rebecca Wolfe each had one. On the pitcher's mound, Vondracek had 16 strikeouts.
The Indians' softball team defeated Southern Cayuga, 22-5, Wednesday, May 15.
Vondracek was 3-for-5, with five RBIs and two home runs. Lynch was also 3-for-5, with four RBIs and a home run, as was Foote with one RBI. Lott was 2-for 5, with an RBI. Sam Sipes earned two hits with one RBI. Wolfe had one hit and one RBI on a home run. Vondracek struck out 17 batters pitching for O-M.
Track and field
The Odessa-Montour boys and girls varsity track and field teams both took first in the Interscholastic Athletic Conference (IAC) Small Schools Championship, Thursday, May 16 and Friday, May 17.
Paden Grover was first in the high jump (6'0"), first in the triple jump (39'6.25"), and second in the 110 meter hurdles (17.23). Zach Elliott was first in the discus (146'11") and first in the shot put (55'2.25").
Preston Harris finished first in the 110 meter hurdles (16.46) and second in the 400 meter hurdles (59.49). Noah Brewster was third in the 400 meter run (55.28). William Yeater placed second in the 3000 meter steeplechase (11:57.17).
For the girls, Nadia Simpson took first in the 200 meter dash (27.21) and first in the 100 meter dash (12.8). Kennedey Heichel was first in the pole vault (10'0"), first in the 400 meter hurdles (1:11.73), and first in the 100 meter hurdles (17.23). Victoria Brewster placed first in the long jump (15'8"), second in the 100 meter dash (13.07), and third in the 200 meter dash (27.49).
Hannah Bruno was second in the triple jump (33'8") and second in the 100 meter hurdles (17.53). Lexi Saunders finished third in the 2000 meter steeplechase (9:16.52). Camille Sgrecci took third in the pole vault (6'6"). Hannah Nolan placed third in the triple jump (30'9").

Dundee loses two games; track travels to championship
DUNDEE--The Dundee varsity softball team fell to South Seneca twice in a doubleheader, Wednesday, May 15.
The first game ended 7-0, South Seneca. Claudya Lyons was 1-for-2.
The Lady Scots lost, 7-1, in the second game. Abby Miller was 1-for-2.
Baseball
The Dundee varsity baseball team lost to Harley Allendale Columbia, 23-7, Saturday, May 18. A six-run third and seven-run sixth inning propelled the Wolves to a victory.
Dundee had four hits.
Dundee lost to South Seneca, Thursday, May 16. The score was 5-1.
No additional stats were provided.
Track and field
The Dundee boys varsity track and field team took fifth at the Wayne-Finger Lakes Championship, Friday, May 17.
Preston Cole was second in the discus (130'5") and second in the shot put (40'11.5"). Matt Wood took third in the 3200 meter run (10:14.35), third in the 1600 meter run (4:41.05), and fifth in the 800 meter run (2:09.60).
Leif Hoyt placed fourth in the discus (123'3"). Gabe Kirkendall was sixth overall in the Pentathlon. Josh Cramer finished sixth in the 400 meter hurdles (1:03.49)
For the girls, Ella Pollack was third overall in the pentathlon, first in the pentathlon high jump (1.4 meters), third in the pentathlon 800 meter run (3:01.45), third in the pentathlon shot put (6.38 meters), and fifth in the pentathlon long jump (3.91 meters). Lily Hall was third in the triple jump (34'1.25") and long jump (15'5.5").

Penn Yan softball tops Wayne, Palmyra-Macedon
PENN YAN--The Lady Mustangs varsity softball team topped Wayne, 6-1, Thursday, May 16.
Serina Sheradin and Elle Harrison both earned triples. Kiana Larham had a double. On the pitcher's mound, Kayla Andersen struck out three.
"They played together the whole game," said Coach Melissa Armsden. "They didn't hang their heads a single second on the few errors we had. They dusted off and picked it up. They worked hard all season and we're starting to see the fruits of our labors."
Penn Yan defeated Palmyra-Macedon, Wednesday, May 15. The final score was 14-1.
Andersen earned seven strikeouts on the pitcher's mound. Sheradin posted a three-run home run.
Baseball
The Penn Yan Academy varsity baseball team lost Thursday's home game against Wayne by a score of 9-5.
Tyler Bouchard was 2-for-2. Mark Preston recorded two RBIs with one hit. Clark Simmons had four strikeouts on the mound.
The Mustangs also fell to the Palmyra-Macedon Red Raiders last week by a score of 3-0.
Peyton Schuck was 2-for-3 in the game. Pitcher Brennan Prather had seven strikeouts.
Boys lacrosse
The Penn Yan boys varsity lacrosse team lost to Thomas, 5-4, Thursday, May 16.
Ayden Mowry had one goal and two assists. Conner Fingar, Clay Kinyoun, and Colton Smith each scored once. In the goal, Griffin Emerson posted eight saves.
Penn Yan was beaten by Fairport, Tuesday, May 14. The final score was 4-3.
Fingar led with two goals. Mowry scored once, while Devon Gerhardt had one assist. Goalie Emerson posted 11 saves.
Girls lacrosse
The Lady Mustangs varsity lacrosse team suffered a loss to Palmyra-Macedon, 18-4, Wednesday, May 15. No stats were provided from this game.
The Penn Yan girls beat Wayne, Monday, May 13. The final score was 17-5.
Hayley Andersen led with six goals and two assists. Sydney Hulse posted five goals and one assist. Allison Winslow scored twice and assisted twice.
Avery Castner earned one goal and one assist. Reilly Cohick, Kaley Griffin, and Grace Ledgerwood each scored once. Bre Lane-Tomion had one assist. In the goal, Alexandra Cox had one save.
Golf
Penn Yan's Peter Nicholson placed 20th at the Section V Class B Championship, Saturday, May 18. He shot a score of 108 (53 and 55).
Tennis
Penn Yan's varsity tennis team blanked Bloomfield, 5-0, Wednesday, May 15.
Lukas Spears topped Hayden Naffziger, 6-1, 6-0. Cole Egburtson won against John Case, 6-1, 6-4. Gabe Wertman beat Alexander White, 6-0, 6-1.
Jeremy Fenton and Spencer Christensen defeated Jordan Vail and Ben Lindstrom, 6-3, 6-1. Connor Hunter and Reid Castner won against Ethan Williams and Jonathan Kornbau, 6-2, 6-3.
Track and field
The Penn Yan girls varsity track and field team took eighth in the Wayne-Finger Lakes Championship, Friday, May 17.
Joddie Decker finished first in the 3000 meter run (10:57.48) and 1500 meter run (4:58.77). Gracie Murphy placed second in the 2000 meter steeplechase (8:09.16). Alexxis Henry was fourth overall in the Pentathlon.
The boys placed 21st. Dominic Lafferty placed fourth in the overall Pentathlon.

Watson competes at class sectional
STAFFORD--Hammondsport's Parker Watson finished fifth in the Section V Class C Golf Championship, Saturday, May 18. He had a total of 94 strokes. The top golfer from Elda had an 81.
The Hammondsport varsity golf team competed in the Steuben County League Tournament and Sectional Qualifier, Wednesday, May 15.
Watson placed third (91 strokes), landing one of the four spots for the Section V individual golf tournament. Matthew Cole (101 strokes) was a second alternate.
Softball
The Bradford/Hammondsport varsity softball team blanked Jasper-Troupsburg in an away game, Friday, May 17. The final score was 15-0.
Tennis
The Prattsburgh-Avoca-Hammondsport varsity tennis team fell to Campbell-Savona, 3-2, Saturday, May 18.
Colin Drain defeated Kaleb Zimar, 6-2, 6-4. Ryan Stanford topped Aidan Hellrigel, 6-4, 6-1.
