Watkins Glen girls swimming wins at Elmira Invite
ELMIRA--The Watkins Glen girls varsity swim team claimed first place at the Elmira Invite in the C Division, Saturday, Oct. 12.
The 200 yard medley relay team (Peighton Cervoni, Faye Mooney, Amanda Wilbur, and Thalia Marquez) was first with 1:55.54. The 200 yard freestyle relay team (Cervoni, Mooney, Wilbur, and Marquez) also took first in 1:47.27.
Cervoni took first in the 50 yard freestyle (26.17) and first in the 100 yard backstroke (1:02.28). Maria Brubaker finished first in the one meter diving. Marquez placed first in the 500 yard freestyle (5:41.01) and second in the 200 yard freestyle (2:06.92).
Wilbur was second in the 200 yard individual medley (2:25.74) and third in the 100 yard butterfly (1:05.75). Mooney was first in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:13.21) and second in the 100 yard freestyle (1:00.60). Sarah Swinnerton took third in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:16.79).
The Watkins swim team topped Odessa-Montour, Thursday, Oct. 10. The final score was 58-36.
Cervoni took first in the 200 yard individual medley (2:31.01) and was first in the 100 yard butterfly (1:10.16). Wilbur was first in the 200 yard freestyle (2:11.58).
Mooney was first in the 50 yard freestyle (27.95). Marquez finished first in the 100 yard freestyle (1:00.01). Aislinn Klemann placed first in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:29.92).
Volleyball
The Watkins Glen girls volleyball team lost to Newfield, 3-1, Wednesday, Oct.9. No additional stats were provided.
Cross country
The Watkins Glen boys varsity cross country team was first at the Legends Invitational at Newark, Saturday, Oct. 12.
Gabe Planty took first (17:31.2) individually. Max Evans finished third (19:10.3), while Sam Thorsland was fourth (19:10.7). Steven Gublo took seventh (19:40.9). Benjamin Swinnerton finished eighth (19:42.0).
For the girls, Breanna Carl placed fourth (22:15.2).
Boys soccer
The Watkins Glen/Dundee boys varsity soccer team beat South Seneca, 5-0, Friday, Oct. 11.
Isaac McIlroy scored four goals, with assists from Tom Elliott and Seamus Mooney. Elliott also scored the fifth goal. Bryce Kelly had six saves in the net.
Watkins/Dundee topped Odessa-Montour, 2-1, Thursday, Oct. 10.
Goalie Kelly had 14 saves, including three penalty kick saves in the first half. McIlroy scored both goals.
The combined soccer team lost to Trumansburg, Monday, Oct. 8. The final score was 5-0. Josiah Wysocki posted 14 saves in goal.
Girls soccer
The Senecas' girls varsity soccer team fell to Trumansburg, 4-0, Friday, Oct. 11.
In goal, Lilly Ameigh posted 15 saves.
"We played a very good first half tonight," said Coach Scott Morse. "After the break, we lacked energy a bit but the girls never gave up. It's always nice to honor our seniors and it has been a true pleasure to be part of the team with them."
Watkins topped Tioga, 8-6, in a home game, Wednesday, Oct. 9.
Abby Gibson scored four goals. Adrie Solomon posted three goals and one assist. Haley Dean scored a goal and assisted once. Carly Arnold and Briana Hayes also each assisted once. In the goal, Ameigh posted 10 saves.
The Senecas blanked Newfield, Monday, Oct. 7. The final score was 3-0.
Arnold scored twice and assisted once. Hayes had one goal. Ameigh earned 13 saves in goal.

Seneca Indians top Spencer-Van Etten/Candor
CANDOR--The Seneca Indians varsity football team kept Spencer-Van Etten/Candor scoreless en route to their victory Friday, Oct. 11. The final score was 27-0.
The game against Spencer/Candor is a rivalry game where both teams compete annually for "The Armed Services Shovel," a tradition started in 2016.
"It was a game that I knew we could win, but to keep them from scoring just proves that we were prepared for whatever they threw at us," said Coach Trevor Holland.
Owen Scholtisek posted 58 yards over 11 carries. Travon Jones had seven carries for 55 yards and two touchdowns. Dominick Fazzary carried eight times for 37 yards and one touchdown.
Matt Irwin added 25 yards, while Ben Mathews had 23 yards. Hunter Holley carried for 13 yards. Cameron Holland had seven yards and one touchdown.
Holland was also 4-for-6 through the air with 48 yards.
Girls swimming
The Odessa-Montour girls varsity swim team placed sixth at the Elmira Invite, Class C Division, Saturday, Oct. 12.
In Class C, the 400 yard freestyle relay team (Kara Reese, Megan Adams, Katie Adams, and Madison Moss) took second in 4:24.77. The 200 yard medley relay team (Reese, Moss, Katie Adams, and Megan Adams) was fourth overall in 2:16.37.
Moss placed third in the 500 yard freestyle (6:08.51). Megan Adams finished fourth in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:20.97), sixth in the 100 yard backstroke (1:16.6), and eighth in the 100 yard freestyle (1:08.36).
Reese was fourth in the 100 yard freestyle (1:01.11) and fourth in the 100 yard backstroke (1:13.40). Katie Adams was seventh in the 100 yard butterfly (1:19.11). Reagan Reese took eighth in the 50 yard freestyle (32.10). Julia Paulisczak was 10th in the 50 yard freestyle (33.11).
The Indians' swim team fell to Watkins Glen, 58-36, Thursday, Oct. 10.
Moss won first in the 500 yard freestyle (6:14.56) and second in the 200 individual medley (2:36.47). Kara Reese took first in the 100 yard backstroke (1:14.81) and second in the 100 yard freestyle (1:03.70).
Katie Adams was second in the 100 yard butterfly (1:21.61), while Megan Adams finished second in the 100 yard backstroke (1:16.69). Reagan Reese was second in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:31.22).
Volleyball
The Odessa-Montour varsity volleyball team lost to Tioga, 3-0, Friday, Oct. 11.
Haley Landon had two aces, one assist, one dig, and three service points. Sam Sipes added two aces, three assists, one dig, and three service points. Jolynn Minnier posted one block and two service points.
Hannah Chapman earned one ace, one assist, one kill, two blocks, and one service point. Karlee Dudgeon had two digs and one service point.
The Indians beat Newfield, Monday, Oct. 7. The final scores were 25-17, 25-21, 16-25, 25-17.
Rhys Stermer posted 18 service points, 10 aces, seven kills, three assists, four blocks, and four digs. Dudgeon had 10 service points, four aces, two kills, one assist, and one dig.
Cheianne Webster earned nine service points, two aces, three kills, and three digs. Sipes contributed seven service points, four aces, one kill, three assists, and three digs. Kiara Ordway added seven service points and one ace.
Boys soccer
The Odessa-Montour boys varsity soccer team fell to Watkins Glen, Thursday, Oct. 10. The final score was 2-1.
Preston Harris scored for the Indians.
Brett Walters and Dominik Scott each had three saves in the goal.
Girls soccer
The Odessa-Montour girls soccer team defeated Newfield, 5-0, Wednesday, Oct. 9.
Scoring for Odessa was Tori Brewster, Rebecca Wolfe, Hannah Nolan, Malia Mertens and Sara Gardner.
Grace Vondracek and Eliza Starkweather held Newfield scoreless in the goal.

Penn Yan football loses; girls tennis will play in final
PENN YAN--The Mustangs' varsity football team lost to East Rochester/Gananda, Friday, Oct. 11. The final score was 53-32.
Backup quarterback Mekhi Mahan was 12-for-18 passing, earning 144 yards and two touchdowns. Brennan Prather led with seven receptions, for 111 yards and one touchdown.
Jon Droney had two receptions for 34 yards and one touchdown. Damien Snyder also had two receptions, earning 13 yards.
Mahan also ran the ball 25 times for 130 yards and three touchdowns. Snyder earned nine rushes for 40 yards.
On the defensive, Mahan and Snyder both led with 14 tackles. Andrew Garren posted 13 tackles. Julien Miller and Prather both recorded 10 tackles. Kyler Lloyd had six tackles, while Hunter Van Housen posted five.
Tennis
The Mustangs' varsity tennis team topped Palmyra-Macedon, 5-0, in the Section V Class B2 semifinals, Wednesday, Oct. 9. Penn Yan now moves on to the championship match.
The singles scores last week were: Molly Pullen, 6-1, 6-4; Claire Pullen, 6-1, 6-0; and Abigail Garvey, 6-0, 6-0.
For doubles, Jayden Hollister and Sydney Moravec won, 6-4, 6-3; and Sam Denson and Grace Worth won, 7-6(7-4), 6-3.
Penn Yan beat Waterloo in the sectional quarterfinals, Tuesday, Oct. 8. The final score was 5-0.
The singles scores were: Molly Pullen, 6-0, 6-0; Claire Pullen, 6-1, 6-0; and Garvey, 6-0, 6-0.
Doubles scores were: Hollister and Denson, 6-2, 6-0; and Moravec and Worth, 6-0, 6-0.
Cross country
The Mustangs' girls varsity cross country team placed first and the boys fourth at Newark's Legends Invitational, Saturday, Oct. 12.
Joddie Decker was second (21:28.4). Jaina Doyle followed in fifth (23:53.1). Gracie Murphy took sixth (24:19.2). Jenna Curbeau placed 15th (28:02.0), while Kianna Larham was 17th (30:48.2).
For the boys, Ayden Mowry was ninth (19:43.6). David Young placed 10th (19:44.2). James Tette took 11th (19:44.6), followed by Dominic Lafferty in 22nd (24:03.0). Anthony Condella placed 24th (24:17.0).
Penn Yan's varsity cross country teams competed at Dundee, Tuesday, Oct. 8.
Decker led in second (20:17.70) for the girls. Doyle took 11th (23:42.80). Curbeau placed 15th (24:30.50), followed by Abby Bodine in 20th (25:58.80). Larham finished 22nd (27:44.10).
For the boys, Mowry was fourth (18:27.40). Tette was fifth (18:44.80), while Young finished 16th (19:51.30). Teagan Fingar took 27th (21:11.50).
Boys soccer
Penn Yan's boys varsity soccer team lost to Mynderse, 4-1, Thursday, Oct. 10. Will Steele scored once, assisted by Tyler Griffin.
The Mustangs blanked Waterloo, 1-0, Tuesday, Oct. 8.
Nick Jarecke had the game's only goal. Mason MacKerchar posted six saves in goal.
Boys golf
The Mustangs' Max Broadmann and Kevin Smith advanced to next spring's sectional tournament, during the Tuesday, Oct. 8, qualifier.
Clayton Koivuniemi won a two-hole playoff to secure a second alternate position. The top 10 players from the Finger Lakes East and West divisions competed Oct. 8.
Girls soccer
The Lady Mustangs' varsity soccer team lost to Newark, Wednesday, Oct. 9. The final score was 2-0.
Penn Yan tied Mynderse, 1-1, Monday, Oct. 7.
Leah Moniot scored once, assisted by Morgan Andersen. Elle Harrison earned four saves.
Volleyball
The Penn Yan varsity volleyball team defeated Midlakes in three sets, Tuesday, Oct. 8. The final scores were 25-13, 25-9, 25-21.
Jammie Decker posted eight kills, one block, and three digs. Serina Sheradin had 15 assists, one kill, and six digs. Caitlin Wunder added two aces, eight kills, and five digs.
The Mustangs fell to the Hammondsport Lakers, 25-19, 25-13, 25-23, Monday, Oct. 7.
Wunder contributed 10 kills, one ace, and 11 digs. Sheradin had 13 assists and 10 digs.

Dundee faces off against Oakfield-Alabama/Elba
DUNDEE--The Dundee varsity football team fell to Oakfield-Alabama/Elba 56-6, Saturday, Oct. 12.
Oakfield took an early lead with 34 points in the first quarter. Dundee scored its touchdown in the fourth quarter.
Joshua Cramer recorded 147 yards over 19 carries, with one touchdown. Cramer also posted three returns for 48 yards.
Kenneth Empson Jr. had three returns for 34 yards. He also had seven carries and a reception in the game.
On defense, Cramer made eight tackles and Nick Slavick had six.
Boys soccer
The Watkins Glen/Dundee boys varsity soccer team beat South Seneca, 5-0, Friday, Oct. 11.

The Lady Scots were beaten by Naples, Monday, Sept. 7. The final score was 1-0. Lyons earned eight saves in goal.
Cross country
The Dundee boys varsity cross country team hosted Newark, Penn Yan, Waterloo, and Geneva, Tuesday, Oct. 8.
Matt Wood placed second (17:27.20) individually. Gabriel Dillon took 25th (20:50.60). Camden Buchanan was 46th (23:14.50), followed by Logan Buchanan in 48th (23:47.30). Tyler Teeter was 50th (24:46.80).

Hammondsport girls top Prattsburgh, 6-0
HAMMONDSPORT--The Hammondsport/Bradford girls varsity soccer team blanked Prattsburgh, 6-0, Wednesday, Oct. 9.
Alivia Phenes scored twice. Faith Bray, Hannah Hoerter, Danielle Conley, and Lydia Dluzak each scored once. Hoerter assisted twice, while Nikki Peterson had one assist. In goal, Rorie Whitcomb posted five saves.
Volleyball
The Lakers varsity volleyball team topped Genesee Valley in four sets, Tuesday, Oct. 8. The final scores were 25-14, 23-25, 25-23, 25-11.
Angela Gonzo, Erika Hilligus, and Vittoria Cateni each had three aces. Hilligus also led at the net putting down nine kills. Julia Bennett posted eight kills and four blocks. Bailey Fletcher earned eight digs, while Brianna Pratt had 28 setter assists.
Hammondsport beat Penn Yan, 25-19, 25-13, 25-23, Monday, Oct. 7.
Pratt served four aces, followed by Fletcher with three. Bennett put down 11 kills and Hilligus added six.
Boys soccer
The Hammondsport boys varsity soccer team fell to Addison, Thursday, Oct. 10. The final score was 8-0.
The Lakers defeated Friendship, 4-1, Tuesday, Oct. 8.
Chris Becker scored twice. John Wells and Ben Cole each scored once. Ian Macdonald, Wells, and Cole also each assisted once.
