Hammondsport repeats as sectional champions
GENESEO--The Hammondsport varsity volleyball team defeated Pavilion in the Section V Class D3 finals, Friday, Nov. 8. The final scores were 25-19, 25-20, 24-26, 22-25, 26-24.
Julia Bennett had 13 kills, followed by Erika Hilligus with 11. Brianna Pratt and Angela Gonzo were named to the Class D3 All-Star team, while Bennett was named the Most Valuable Player. Hammondsport will play Tuesday, Nov. 12, against Bloomfield in the first regional match.
The Lakers topped Batavia Notre Dame in four sets in the sectional semifinals, Wednesday, Nov. 6. The final scores were 25-19, 22-25, 25-6, 25-20.
Hilligus led with seven aces at the service line and had 12 kills. Bennett posted 14 kills, Gonzo had 11 and Vittoria Cateni nine. Pratt also had 50 setter assists.

Penn Yan Mustangs fall in volleyball finale to Attica
AVON--The Penn Yan varsity volleyball team lost to Attica in the Section V Class C1 finals, Friday, Nov. 8. The final score was 13-25, 25-23, 25-23, 15-25, 25-19. Penn Yan was the third seed and Attica held the number one seeded spot.
The Mustangs defeated North Rose-Wolcott, 18-25, 25-10, 25-14, 25-19, in the sectional semifinals, Wednesday, Nov. 6.
Serina Sheradin posted 40 assists, eight kills, and one ace. Caitlin Wunder earned 30 kills, eight aces, and 15 digs.
Jammie Decker contributed four aces, eight kills, and eight digs. Kayla Andersen had five kills and one block.

Watkins Glen swimming, cross country win titles
WATKINS GLEN--The Watkins Glen girls varsity swim team won the Section IV Class C championship, Saturday, Nov. 9.
The 200 yard medley relay team (Peighton Cervoni, Faye Mooney, Amanda Wilbur, and Thalia Marquez) finished first in 1:53.41. The 200 yard freestyle relay team (Cervoni, Mooney, Wilbur, and Marquez) placed first with a 1:45.62.
In diving, Maria Brubaker took first, followed by Ali LaMoreaux in second.
Marquez took first in the 200 yard freestyle (2:04.34) and first in the 500 yard freestyle (5:37.66). Cervoni won first in the 100 yard backstroke (1:01.29) and third in the 50 yard freestyle (26.25). Mooney placed first in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:11.34).
Wilbur took second in the 200 yard individual medley (2:22.56) and second in the 100 yard butterfly (1:03.68). Sarah Swinnerton finished second in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:13.18) and third in the 200 yard individual medley (2:24.65). Malina Butler was third in the 100 yard backstroke (1:10.66).
Cross country
The Senecas' boys varsity cross country team won the Section IV Class C crown, Thursday, Nov. 7.
Gabe Planty led the Watkins boys in first place (16:50.3) individually. Sam Thorsland was seventh (17:48.50). Max Evans placed 17th (18:18.8). Steven Gublo finished 23rd (18:44.4), while Benjamin Swinnerton was 26th (18:49.5).

Odessa girls take sixth
WATKINS GLEN--The Odessa-Montour girls varsity swim team placed sixth in the Section IV Class C championship, Saturday, Nov. 9.
The 200 yard medley relay team (Megan Adams, Madison Moss, Katie Adams, and Kara Reese) placed fourth in 2:12.99. The 400 yard freestyle relay team (Reese, Katie Adams, Megan Adams, and Moss) finished sixth with 4:27.76. The 200 yard freestyle relay team (Julia Paulisczak, Delaney Paulisczak, Reagan Reese, and Annaleise Beckley) was seventh in 2:11.20.
Moss was fifth in the 500 yard freestyle (6:11.16). Kara Reese took sixth in the 100 yard backstroke (1:12.83) and seventh in the 100 yard freestyle (1:00.71). Katie Adams finished ninth in the 100 yard butterfly (1:16.94).
