14.9 percent have COVID-19 antibodies

NEW YORK STATE--Amid the ongoing novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced the results of the state's phase two antibody testing survey. The preliminary results show 14.9 percent of the population have COVID-19 antibodies. Phase one, released last week, showed 13.9 percent.
There are varying opinions on whether antibodies could mean immunity from reinfection or for how long. The World Health Organization has cautioned since scientists are only four months into studying the pandemic, research has not concluded antibody response means immunity. Similar viruses have shown exposure typically provides immunity or a much less severe case of infection. Experiments are being done to test how overall exposure levels to COVID-19 could impact these findings.
On Saturday, April 25, the state expanded the diagnostic testing criteria to include all first responders, health care workers and essential employees even if they aren't symptomatic. A new executive order will allow pharmacists to conduct diagnostic testing for COVID-19. This action unlocks a network of over 5,000 testing locations.
As of press time, Yates County now has 27 positive cases, 12 recovered, one death, 228 negative tests and 29 in isolation or quarantine. On Monday the public health department said 73 percent of cases are connected to long term care facilities.
In Schuyler County, there were no new positive tests from last week's publish date. Nine were positive and nine have recovered. There are 417 total negative tests and one person in isolation or quarantine.
Steuben County again saw more cases and deaths this week, however the rate has slowed "tremendously" according the health officials. There are 225 confirmed cases, 125 recovered, nine hospitalized and 35 dead. 229 are in isolation or quarantine.
