Dundee will lower tax rate
DUNDEE--The Dundee Central School District Board of Education met Thursday, Aug. 13 where it was announced the tax rate for the 2020-2021 school year would decrease compared to the previous year. According to Board President Robert Neu, the tax rate will go down to $10.32 from $10.37. "We are very fortunate to be in the situation we are in... [this] is [good] news for all tax payers," said Neu, who added that "careful budget planning," made the reduction possible. District Superintendent Kelly Houck also reiterated during the meeting school will open on Tuesday, Sept. 8, and thanked all staff and the community at large for making the opening a possibility. "I want to thank every single staff member. They worked so hard together and were so thoughtful about the reopening plans... the community has been exceptional in participating... and I can't say enough about the support we have gotten," said Houck. The board also discussed the possibility that shortfalls created by the COVID-19 pandemic might effect the state budget where education funding could be in jeopardy. "Email your representatives and let them know that if anything the education funding needs to be increased because the shortness of last year created greater needs for the upcoming year," said Neu. The meeting, in comparison to previous meetings, was brief at just over eight minutes long. The next Dundee board of education meeting is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 10.
