Schuyler approaches 5 percent positivity

SCHUYLER COUNTY--Schuyler County Public Health provided an update, Saturday, Nov. 14 informing the community there were 15 new COVID-19 cases since Friday, and subsequently seven additional cases Monday and six Tuesday. The seven-day average percent positive metric, which is used by the state to determine further restrictions, was 4.9 percent on Monday and 4.6 percent Tuesday.
The state lists Schuyler County as a tier four geographic area, meaning there are less than 50,000 people. For that category to enter a yellow designation there has to be a seven-day rolling average positivity above 4 percent for 10 days and the geographic area has 15 or more new daily cases per 100,000 residents on a seven-day average. The orange designation increases the threshold percentage to 5 percent and red, 6 percent.
"COVID-19 is spreading in New York, and the increased number of cases is taking place throughout the state. This is not an upstate or downstate issue--all New Yorkers, regardless of where they live, have cause for concern," Governor Andrew Cuomo said Monday. "We are continuing to use a comprehensive micro-cluster strategy and increase our testing capacity to new heights. However, our success also depends on the vigilance and smart behavior of New Yorkers. Wash your hands, stay socially distanced and wear a mask. Local governments, do the enforcement. We're going to get through this pandemic, but only if we do it together and stay New York Tough."
