SPORTS RECAP: Week of 2-24-21

Dundee Boys Basketball
The Dundee boys basketball team defeated Naples but lost to HAC and South Seneca last week.
The final score of the South Seneca game, Saturday, Feb. 20, was 43-40.
Against HAC, Dundee fell 61-46. Steven Webster had 18 points and 12 rebounds. Logan Salvatore added 13 points and six assists, while Blake Machuga had seven points and eight rebounds.
The Scots won against Naples 68-50. Webster had 24 points and eight rebounds. Salvatore recorded 13 points, eight rebounds and six steals. Peyton Boudinot scored 10 points and Davey Semans eight.

Dundee Girls Basketball
The Dundee/Bradford girls improved to 4-0 on the season with two wins last week.
The girls defeated Harley-Allendale-Columbia, Friday, Feb. 19. The final score was 67-39. Makenzie Cratsley led with 13 points, six rebounds and three steals. Kendall Parker and Kailey Yeoman each had 12 points. Hallie Knapp led the team on defense with 17 rebounds. She also recorded 10 points. Jillian Underhill also chipped in nine points for the Lady Scots.
The girls beat Naples, 57-18, Wednesday, Feb. 17. Cratsley recorded 15 points and had four rebounds. Parker had 12 points and seven steals in the game. Yeoman contributed with 10 points, six rebounds and four steals.

Dundee Bowling
At the Finger Lakes Coaches Tournament Doubles and Singles Event, Dundee coach Courtney Eddinger was named the girls west coach of the year, and was named a co-coach of the year for the boys.
The girls were west division league champions with Dundee players holding the top positions. They included: High Game - Cassie Morrissette (Dundee) 238, High Series - Jaedyn Brewer (Dundee) 523 and High Average - Cassie Morrissette (Dundee) 144.

Dundee Wrestling
The Dundee wrestling team lost to South Seneca, Thursday, Feb. 18.
Dundee's win came from Kenneth Empson (189) who pinned Adam Sibley in 3:07 during the match.

Penn Yan Girls Basketball
The Penn Yan girls basketball team lost to Waterloo, Friday, Feb. 19. The final score was 48-36.
Hayley Andersen led with 18 points, Kaley Griffin and Sierra Harrison each had six and Jammie Decker had four including 14 rebounds. Joddie Decker had two points and four assists.
The girls defeated Geneva, 59-15, Wednesday, Feb. 17. Griffin recorded 16 points, six rebounds, five assists and four steals. Joddie Decker had 13 points and 10 rebounds. Andersen followed with 12 points and three steals. Jammie Decker also added nine points and 12 rebounds.
The Lady Mustangs also beat Newark, 73-39, Monday, Feb. 15. Joddie Decker paced the team with 18 points and seven rebounds. She also had 10 assists. Andersen recorded 17 points, while Griffin had 10. Elle Harrison contributed nine points and four rebounds.

Penn Yan Boys Basketball
The Penn Yan boys had two wins and a loss last week. The loss came to Geneva, 88-59 while the wins were against Newark (75-62) and Waterloo (62-61).
Leading the team in the Waterloo game was Griffin Emerson with 17 points. Mason Kuver had 12, Oliver Connelly nine and Dominic Lafferty eight. Brigham Hansen had seven points.
Kuver led the team against Geneva with 15 points. Javyn Gammaro had 14 points, while Max Brodmann had 11.
Lafferty recorded 23 points in the game against Newark. Emerson had 18 and Devon Gerhardt 10.

Penn Yan Bowling
The boys and girls bowling Finger Lakes East All-Stars were named last week.
On the boys first team for Penn Yan was Cameron Bassage and Ben Broome. The second team included Trenton Samatulski, Connor Anderson and Colin Johnson. Receiving honorable mention was Jon Mashewske and Dutcher Samatulski.
For the girls, Andy Kniffin and Anella Tillman earned first-team honors.
At the Finger Lakes Coaches Tournament Doubles and Singles Event, Penn Yan coach Mindy Johnson was named the boys east coach of the year. The boys team was also named league champions at the event.

Penn Yan Wrestling
The Penn Yan wrestling team lost to North Rose-Wolcott, Thursday, Feb. 18. The final score was 36-15.
At 132, Ayden Mowry won by decision, 15-12. Gabe Hopkins (215) and Mason Petersen (285) both pinned their opponent in 35 and 50 seconds, respectively.
Penn Yan lost to Mynderse 36-18, Tuesday, Feb. 16. Competitive wins were earned by Mason Bishop (172) and Petersen (285) both by pins.

Hammondsport Girls Basketball
The Hammondsport girls got their first win of the season, Friday, Feb. 19. The Lady Lakers defeated Campbell-Savona. Hannah Hoerter led with 27 points in the game. Danica Dresser had 11, Rorie Whitcomb eight, Maggie Durand and LaZell Locey four each, Rachel Wood two and Emilee Hurd one.
The girls fell to Alfred-Almond, Tuesday, Feb. 16. The final score was 39-29. Hoerter again led with 13 points, Whitcomb had 10, Dresser four and Hurd two.

Hammondsport Boys Basketball
The Hammondsport boys varsity basketball team lost to Avoca/Prattsburgh, Saturday, Feb. 20. The final score was 92-55.
The boys also lost to Canisteo-Greenwood, Wednesday, Feb. 17. The score in that game was 66-34. Individual scoring statistics were not provided.

Odessa-Montour Girls Basketball
The Odessa-Montour girls varsity basketball team lost to Watkins Glen, 30-25, Saturday, Feb. 20.
Hannah Nolan had 10 points, Mackenzie Cannon seven, Autumn Garrison five, Mallory Rhodes two and Brittany Cain one.
The girls also lost to Spencer-Van Etten, 41-30, Tuesday, Feb. 16. Cannon led with 11 points.

Odessa-Montour Boys Basketball
The Odessa-Montour boys basketball team lost to Spencer-Van Etten, Tuesday, Feb. 16. The final score was 77-41. Odessa was led by Jared Rumsey with 14 points.

Odessa-Montour/Watkins Glen Wrestling
The Odessa-Montour/Watkins Glen wrestling team lost to Waverly, Saturday, Feb. 20.
Getting competitive victories for OMWG was Mark Waterman (138) - pin and Gabe Williams (145) - pin.
The OMWG team defeated Spencer-Van Etten/Candor, Wednesday, Feb. 17. The final score was 42-36. All of the victories came by forfeits.

Watkins Glen Girls Basketball
The Watkins Glen girls varsity basketball team topped Odessa-Montour, Saturday, Feb. 20. The final score was 30-25.
Natalie Edminster recorded 11 points, Amanda Wilbur had six points, Jenna Solomon and Abby Gibson added five points each, Bailey Beaumont had two points and Aislinn Klemann one.
The girls fell to Elmira Notre Dame, 51-24, Friday, Feb. 19. Solomon led with seven points.

Watkins Glen Boys Basketball
The Watkins Glen boys basketball team defeated Candor, Saturday, Feb. 20. The final score was 55-36. Owen Scholtisek had 22 points.
The boys also beat Elmira Notre Dame 67-40, Friday, Feb. 19. Travon Jones netted 20 points.

Watkins Glen Swimming
The Watkins Glen boys swimming team lost two matches last week.
Waverly won 102-62, Wednesday, Feb. 17. The 400 freestyle relay team was first with a 4:09.33. The swimmers included Liam Smith, Owen Bingham, Daine Butler and Ben Swinnerton. Smith was also second in the 200 freestyle and 500 freestyle. Swinnerton was second in the 100 breaststroke.
The boys lost to Lansing 116-57, Tuesday, Feb. 16. Smith was first in the 200 freestyle. The relay teams, including the 200 medley, 200 freestyle and 400 freestyle were all second..
