SPORTS RECAP: Week of 3-10-21

Dundee Girls Basketball
The Dundee/Bradford girls basketball team enters the sectional tournament with an 8-2 record after two wins and two losses last week.
The girls fell to South Seneca, 45-35, Saturday, March 6. Makenzie Cratsley scored 10 points and had four steals. Kailey Yeoman netted 10 points, Kendall Parker had eight points, Hallie Knapp grabbed eight rebounds with five points, Mikayla Schoffner scored two points with three blocks and Jillian Underhill had nine rebounds.
Dundee/Bradford beat Honeoye, 48-27, Friday, March 5. Underhill led with 13 points, while Cratsley had 12. Yeoman had seven and Parker six. Underhill and Cratsley also added six rebounds each and had eight and six steals, respectively.
The varsity girls team beat Marcus Whitman, 32-30, Wednesday. Parker led with 10 points. Yeoman, Knapp and Cratsley all had six. Knapp led with a team-high 11 rebounds. Underhill had eight.
Dundee/Bradford lost to South Seneca 53-42, Monday. Parker had 11 points, Yeoman and Underhill each had eight. Knapp recorded 13 rebounds.

Dundee Boys Basketball
The Dundee boys basketball team will compete in their first sectional game against Oakfield-Alabama, Tuesday, March 9. The Scots enter sectionals with an 8-4 record.
The boys had four games last week with three wins and one loss.
Against Odessa-Montour, Saturday, March 6, the team won 58-48. Steven Webster had 16 points and nine rebounds. Blake Machuga and Logan Salvatore each recorded 15 points. Machuga added eight rebounds, while Salvatore had three steals in the game. Michael End added 10 points.
The Scots beat Honeoye, 71-54, Friday evening. Machuga and Webster each had 18 points. Webster also contributed a team-high 14 rebounds. Salvatore added 16 points with six assists and four steals. End had seven points.
Dundee lost to Midlakes, 61-57, Wednesday, March 3. Individual stats were not provided for this game.
The Scots began the week with a win against South Seneca, 76-63. Machuga led with 26 points, seven rebounds, three assists and three steals. Salvatore recorded 17 points, six rebounds and five assists. Peyton Boudinot and Webster each had 10 points. This game marked win number 200 for head coach Les Miller.
"This has been a difficult year for all of us in many different ways," said Miller after the regular season-ending game on Saturday. "I am so glad for the boys that they were able to have even a shortened season. The season started with us in quarantine and a week behind everyone else. We began to wonder if we would have a season. We had to compress all of our games into three weeks. I cannot express how proud I am of the boys for just finishing off a 12 game stretch in three weeks. It is very rare to play four games in a week, we just did it for three straight weeks, and got better each week. The boys kept coming in and did not want any days off, so we have been together every day since we started. It has been a pleasure working with them this season."

Dundee Wrestling
The Dundee wrestling team defeated Red Jacket, Friday, March 5. The final score was 30-21.
Recording forfeit victories for the Scots were: Logan Snyder (152), Cole Hunt (160), Kenneth Empson Jr. (189), Hayden Erick (215) and Tate Hoyt (285).
The wrestlers defeated Penn Yan, 24-18, Monday, March 1.
Snyder (152) defeated Avery Castner with a pin in 2:24. Empson (189) pinned Alec Benson in 0:20.
Forfeit wins came from Hunt (160) and Caden Hill (172)

Penn Yan Wrestling
The Penn Yan wrestling team lost to East Rochester 45-6, Thursday, March 4.
Ayden Mowry (132) won over Jason Taylor with a 5-0 decision. Mason Petersen beat Cole Ricci with a 2-0 decision.

Penn Yan Boys Basketball
The Penn Yan boys won one game and lost two last week.
Against Geneva on Friday, March 5, the boys fell 64-51. Mason Kuver led with 11 points. Max Brodmann had nine points, while Oliver Connelly had eight.
The Mustangs won over Newark, 55-50, Wednesday, March 3. Brigham Hansen had a team-high 26 points including four three-pointers. Kuver followed with nine points and Griffin Emerson had eight.
The varsity boys team lost to Wayne 56-47, Monday. Hansen led with 17 points including five threes. Emerson had 11 points.

Penn Yan Girls Basketball
The Penn Yan girls basketball team will open their sectional campaign against Attica at home, Tuesday, March 9. The girls bring an 8-4 record into sectionals, with three wins last week.
Penn Yan beat Geneva, 52-24, Friday, March 5. Joddie Decker led with 25 points and seven rebounds. Hayley Andersen had 10 points and two steals. Jammie Decker added eight points and seven rebounds.
The Lady Mustangs topped Newark, 57-22, Wednesday, March 3. Joddie Decker had a team-high 17 points. Andersen followed with 15.
Penn Yan defeated Wayne, 40-20 on Monday. Joddie Decker scored 14 points and had 10 rebounds. Jammie Decker and Andersen each had six points.

Hammondsport Girls Basketball
The Hammondsport girls varsity basketball team will play their first sectional game, Tuesday, March 9 after recording two wins last week.
The Lady Lakers beat Alfred-Almond 58-44, Thursday, March 4. They also topped Jasper-Troupsburg, Tuesday, March 2, 47-43. Individual stats were not provided.

Hammondsport Boys Basketball
The Hammondsport boys basketball team advances to the first round of sectional play Monday, March 8 against Wheatland-Chili after a win and loss last week.
The boys fell by one point, 61-60 against Addison, Saturday, March 6. The Lakers topped Bradford 53-50, Wednesday, March 3. Individual stats were not reported.

Hammondsport Wrestling
The Hammondsport wrestling team won one match and lost two last week.
The Lakers defeated Campbell-Savona, 24-17, Saturday, March 6. Nevin Davis (152) pinned Brendan Risley in 3:48. Forfeit victories were gained by Tristian Davis, George Drake and Andrew Henning.
The team lost to Addison, 42-12, Friday. Davis (152) pinned Dylan Morseman in 2:18. Henning (189) won by forfeit.
The wrestlers lost to Campbell-Savona 21-12, Thursday, March 4. Delaney Cole (138) and Davis (152) won by forfeit.

Odessa-Montour Boys Basketball
The Odessa-Montour boys basketball team fell to Dundee, Saturday, March 6. The final score was 58-48. Devon Mahaney scored a team-high 17 points. Cameron Elliott had nine.
The O-M boys lost to Southern Cayuga, 65-47, Thursday, March 4. Mahaney again led with 18 points. Elliott had 17.
The Odessa boys also lost to Southern Cayuga on Tuesday night. The score of that game was 65-25.

Odessa-Montour Girls Basketball
The Odessa-Montour girls basketball team beat Southern Cayuga 50-40, Saturday, March 6. Autumn Garrison had a team-high 17 points. Hannah Nolan added 16 points and Taylor Cain had 11.
The girls lost to Tioga, 42-33, Thursday, March 4. Nolan had 10 points for O-M and Garrison and Rhodes each had nine.
The O-M girls also lost to Tioga 46-41, Tuesday evening. Nolan again led with 15 points and Cain had 14.

Odessa-Montour Boys Swimming
The Odessa-Montour boys swimming team finished seventh at the Section IV Class C championships two weeks ago.
Ben Campbell was fourth in the 500 Yard Freestyle and 12th in the 200 Yard Freestyle. Brock Sgrecci took seventh in the 100 Yard Breaststroke and eighth in the 100 Yard Freestyle. Nick DeLong finished seventh in the 100 Yard Backstroke. Caleb Reynolds was ninth in the 200 Yard IM. The 200 Yard Freestyle Relay team took fifth.

Watkins Glen Boys Basketball
The Watkins Glen boys basketball team defeated Horseheads, 50-40, Saturday, March 6. The final score was 50-40. Owen Scholtisek had 11 points, while Max Evans and Mitchell Pike had nine.
The boys easily defeated Edison, 67-31, Thursday, March 4.
Travon Jones had a team-high 25 points. Cameron Holland and Evans each had 11 points.
The boys also defeated Edison 77-54, Tuesday, March 2. Evans had 20 points for the Senecas.

Watkins Glen Girls Basketball
The Watkins Glen girls basketball team lost to Edison 53-39, Friday, March 5. Abby Gibson had 19 points in the game.
The girls team also beat Edison, Tuesday, March 2. The final score was 40-36. Gibson led with nine points and Amanda Wilbur had eight.

Watkins Glen Swimming
The Watkins Glen swim team finished sixth at the Section IV Class C Championship two weeks ago. Watkins had 177 points.
Liam Smith was second in the 500 Yard Freestyle and fourth in the 200 Yard Freestyle. The 400 Yard Freestyle Relay team was fourth for Watkins Glen. Ben Swinnerton took fifth in the 100 Yard Breaststroke and seventh in the 200 Yard IM. The Boys 200 Yard Medley Relay was sixth. Daine Butler was sixth in the 100 Yard Freestyle and ninth in the 50 Yard Freestyle.
