SPORTS RECAP: Week of 3-17-21

Dundee Girls Basketball
The Dundee/Bradford girls varsity basketball team ended their season with a 9-3 record after a loss to York, Wednesday, March 10.
In the sectional semifinal, Dundee/Bradford lost 45-35. Jillian Underhill had 11 points and four rebounds. Makenzie Cratsley scored 10 points with five rebounds. Kendall Parker netted four points and added five steals. Kailey Yeoman scored four points with two steals. Nikki Peterson had three points and an assist. Hallie Knapp grabbed 10 rebounds with two points.
"We can't thank our players enough for their hard work and dedication during our season," said coaches Michael Strait and Anthony Yeoman. "Thanks again to our seniors Jillian Underhill, Makenzie Cratsley, Kirsta Sleve, and Cambri Harrian for their commitment, and contributions throughout the years. You all have bright futures ahead."
The girls basketball team won their opening sectional game against Geneseo 56-52. Underhill scored 14 points with nine rebounds. Cratsley had 11 points and four rebounds. Knapp netted 10 points with six boards. Parker scored eight points with five steals. Yeoman put in six points with four steals. Peterson had a three-pointer with two steals, and Mikayla Schoffner had four points with four rebounds.

Dundee Boys Basketball
The Dundee boys basketball team concluded the winter season with an 8-5 record. In the sectional match against Oakfield-Alabama, Tuesday, March 9, the Scotsman fell 72-40. Oakfield-Alabama, the number three seed, went on to win the sectional title in Class C2 on Saturday.

Dundee Wrestling
Dundee's Kenneth Empson Jr. took first place in the Section V Class B3 wrestling championship, Saturday, March 13.
In the final match at 189 pounds, Empson won a 7-4 decision over Maverick Bump from Alexander. Empson pinned Logan Winnie in 3:04 in the semifinal round, and Brayden Day in 0:52 in the quarterfinals.
At 160 pounds, Cole Hunt pinned Arkport's Patrick Stauring in 3:38 to open the tournament and then fell to South Seneca's Luke Dendis in the quarterfinals.
Tate Hoyt (215) finished in fifth place after a loss in the quarterfinals to Alexander's Gavin Smith-Crandall.

Penn Yan Wrestling
Two Penn Yan wrestlers took second place at the Section V Class B1 championship last weekend.
Ayden Mowry (132) was pinned in the finals match against Hornell's Mason Drew. To reach the finals, Mowry defeated Teddy Raes (Midlakes) 9-2 and pinned Gavin Brooks (Dansville) in 1:19.
Mason Petersen (285) fell in the first place match, 3-0, against Haverling's Josh Miles. He won three matches to reach the finals. He beat Hornell's Alex Lockwood with a pin in 8:00, Domonic Lockwood also from Hornell by a 2-0 decision and Wayne's Dominick Sacco with a pin in 2:36.
Avery Castner (152) fell in the first round, while Mason Bishop (172) received a bye and then fell in the quarterfinals. Alec Benson (189) and Nick Murphy (215) also lost in round one.

Penn Yan Girls Basketball
The Penn Yan girls basketball team lost to Dansville in the sectional semifinal, Thursday, March 11. The final score was 51-40. No individual stats were reported.
The girls won their first sectional game against Attica, 54-42, Tuesday, March 9.
Joddie Decker had 22 points, seven rebounds and six steals. Hayley Andersen contributed 13 points and had two steals. Sam Lane-Tomion and Jammie Decker each had six points. Decker also had nine rebounds. Kaley Griffin recorded six rebounds with two points.

Hammondsport Girls Basketball
The Hammondsport girls varsity basketball team ended the season with a 4-5 record after a sectional loss to C.G. Finney, Tuesday, March 9. The final score was 69-49.
Hannah Hoerter led with 19 points, Rorie Whitcomb had 10 and Destiny Hammond nine. LaZell Locey added seven and Emilee Hurd had four.

Hammondsport Boys Basketball
The Hammondsport Lakers boys basketball team lost their first sectional match against Wheatland-Chili, Monday, March 8. The final score was 75-55. No individual stats were provided.

Hammondsport Wrestling
Hammondsport wrestlers competed at the Section V Class B3 championship, Saturday, March 13.
Nevin Davis (160) finished fourth after a loss to Trevor Jones (Letchworth) by a 4-3 decision in the third-place match. Davis also lost to Luke Dendis (South Seneca) in the semifinals by a pin in 1:59. In the quarterfinals, Davis recorded a major decision, 13-5, over Lyndonville's Payton Grabowski.
Tristian Davis (126), George Drake (138), Delaney Cole (138) and Andrew Henning (189) also represented Hammondsport but sustained losses in the first round.

Seneca Indians Football
The Seneca Indians, the combined football team of Watkins Glen and Odessa-Montour, played in their first scrimmage, Sunday, March 14. The Seneca Indians and the Waverly Wolverines took turns on offense and defense during the scrimmage. The team will open their season at home against Ithaca, Friday, March 19. Game time is 7 p.m., however, COVID-19 pandemic response protocols, only allow two fans to attend per athlete. The game will also be streamed online.
