Early voting underway for primaries

FINGER LAKES--With the general election in November rapidly approaching, primaries are on the way Tuesday, June 22 to determine Republican candidates. Voters again have the option to participate in early polling.
In Schuyler County, all Republican primary voters will be asked to select one candidate from between Kevin P. Rumsey and Breck A. Spaulding to run for a four year term as sheriff in November.
Beyond the county-wide vote for sheriff, the only other elections are limited to the town of Orange. For the ability to run as a Republican for Town Supervisor residents of Orange will be asked to decide between Norma J. Burris and Joanne A. Randall. For Highway Superintendent, there are four candidates including: Jason P. Forcier, John R. Rappleye, Cody A. Morehouse and Clinton M. Webster. The position of council member has two candidates: Misty A. Simms and Richard M. Hendrick.
On June 22 voting will take place from 6 a.m. until 9 p.m. at the following locations: Catharine- town hall, 5182 Park Rd., Odessa; Cayuta- town hall, 6360 S.R. 224, Cayuta; Dix 1-community center, 155 S. Clute Park Drive, Watkins Glen; Dix 2-community center, 155 S. Clute Park Drive, Watkins Glen; Dix 3- fire house (Beaver Dams), 1165 County Road 19, Beaver Dams; Hector 1- fire house (Valois-Logan-Hector), 5736 S.R. 414, Hector; Hector 2- fire house (Valois-Logan-Hector), 5736 S.R. 414, Hector; Hector 3- fire house (Burdett), 4124 Lake Ave., Burdett; Hector 4- fire house (Mecklenburg), 4495 C.R. 6, Mecklenburg; Hector 5- fire house (Mecklenburg), 4495 C.R. 6, Mecklenburg; Hector 6- fire house (Burdett), 4124 Lake Ave., Burdett; Montour 1- fire house (Montour), 111 Lee St., Montour Falls; Montour 2- fire house (Montour), 111 Lee St., Montour Falls; Montour 3- fire house (Montour), 111 Lee St., Montour Falls; Orange -fire house (Monterey), 1465 South St., Beaver Dams; Reading 1-town hall, 3914 C.R. 28, Reading Center; Reading 2- town hall, 3914 C.R. 28, Reading Center; Tyrone 1- town hall, 457 County Rd. 23, Dundee; and Tyrone 2- town hall, 457 County Rd. 23, Dundee.
Early voting will take place at the county courthouse building located at 105 Ninth St., Watkins Glen and started on Saturday, June 12.
The remaining times available are:
Wednesday, June 16, 12 p.m.- 8 p.m.; Thursday, June 17, 8:30 a.m.- 4:30 p.m.; Friday, June 18, 8:30 a.m.- 4:30 p.m.; Saturday, June 19, 9 a.m.- 2p.m.; and Sunday, June 20, 9 a.m.- 2 p.m.
In Starkey, residents will be asked to choose between Stacey Seeley and Carrie Wood for town justice.
Residents of Starkey will vote June 22 at the Dundee Village Hall located at 12 Union St., Dundee.
In Milo, residents will choose four candidates to run for the county legislator from Sean Ahearn, Daniel Banach, Carlie Chilson, Leslie Church, Mark Morris and Megan Wilkinson.
Residents of Milo 2, 3, 5 and 6 will vote at the Penn Yan Gymnasium located at 305 Court St., Penn Yan. Residents of Milo 4 will vote at the Himrod Firehouse located at 3530 Rd., Himrod.
Early voting will take place up until June 20 with the hours listed as Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Thursday 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday 9 a.m to 5 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday 9 a.m. - 2 p.m.
According to the Yates County Board of Elections website "Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the governor has authorized a broad definition of 'Temporarily Ill' so that any voter who may spread the virus or is concerned about contracting the virus while voting in person at a poll site may apply for and obtain an absentee ballot for the June primaries, if any, and the November general election in 2021."
Residents of the Town of Wayne in Steuben County will have multiple candidates to consider. Voters will be asked to choose between Thomas A. Dunbar and William Mahr to be the Republican candidate for town supervisor. Residents will also have to choose candidates to run for councilperson from E. David Bauer, Julie Haar, Michael H. Haff and John Walton. Finally, residents of Wayne will be asked to select between Douglas E. Howard and Gary E. Perz for superintendent of highways.
Early voting will be located at the Steuben County Annex Located at 20 E. Morris St., Bath at the following times: June 16, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., June 17, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., June 18, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., June 19, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and June 20, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Day-of voting will occur at the Wayne Town Hall.
