Barrington town board 12/09/09Meeting: The Barrington town board met Wednesday, Dec. 9 for one hour.Attendance: Fred Wright was the only board member absent. There were two members of the public in the audience. Discussion without action: Highway Superintendent Steve Wheeler told the board he wants to replace the Carley Brace Road Bridge, sometime in the near future. Decision was tabled until the next meeting because Wheeler would not have current prices for cold mix until then. • Supervisor Eileen Farnan said she went to a Marcellus Shale Summit in Owego. She said she learned two things. The first was that drilling is going to happen. Farnan said the second was the that the only way for the county and the towns to have any control over drilling is to have driveway and highway laws in place. Farnan added it would work the best if everyone in Yates had the same driveway and highway laws. • The board inquired about the ethics nominating committee. Clerk Joy Perry said she has been waiting to hear back from board chairman Carlton Reeves, who has been traveling for work. She said she would try and contact him again when he is in Barrington next. The town board also discussed making a motion to allow the nominating committee to ask the sheriff’s department for background checks when they are ready. However, nothing was passed. Board member Ken Christensen Jr. said he wanted the chairperson to ask the town board to authorize the background checks. He added the town board should stay out of the nominating committee as much as possible. • Planning board chairperson Sue Lange said that board would meet Wednesday, Jan. 20. She explained the planning board will be holding its annual review of the comprehensive plan. Lange added that if the town board had anything to suggest, they can pass it on to the planning board. Upcoming meetings: The next regular board meeting will be Wednesday, Dec. 23 at 7 p.m. |
