SPORTS RECAP: Week of 9-8-21
Penn Yan-Dundee Football The Penn Yan-Dundee football team opened the season, Friday, Sept. 3 at Marcus Whitman. The final score was 26-25, with Whitman/Bloomfield pulling out the win. Carter Earl was 13-for-19 passing for 175 yards with three touchdowns. He also had three carries for 96 yards and one touchdown. John Bell led the team with four receptions for 85 yards and three touchdowns. Ashtian Dunning totaled 27 yards on two receptions, while Anthony Druker added three catches for 22 yards. On defense, Nick Slavic made 15 tackles. Bell had seven tackles with two sacks and Alex Foster added nine tackles with one sack. Tyler Bouchard, Kaden LaBar and Anthony Sciallo all had six tackles.
Dundee-Bradford Boys Soccer The Dundee-Bradford boys soccer team defeated Twin Tiers Christian Academy, Friday, Sept. 3. The final score was 5-1. The BraveScots had 12 shots, five corner kicks and seven saves.
Dundee-Bradford Girls Soccer The Dundee-Bradford girls soccer team beat Twin Tiers Christian Academy, 5-0, Friday, Sept. 3. Madison Hughes had three goals in the game. Kendall Parker recorded two. Assisting were Korrin Yeoman, Baleigh Monell, Jade Rousell (twice) and Nicole Peterson.
Dundee-Bradford Volleyball The Dundee-Bradford BraveScots defeated Honeoye, 3-0, on the road Thursday, Sept. 2. The game scores were 25-14, 25-8, 25-16.
Penn Yan Golf The Penn Yan golf team beat Newark, 248-301, Thursday, Sept. 2. Recording birdies in the match were Dutcher Samatulski and Griffin Emerson both on the 13th hole. Cameron Bassage and Emerson both shot match-low 44s.
Penn Yan Boys Soccer The Penn Yan boys soccer team won their season opener Thursday, Sept. 2. The final score was 5-0 over Midlakes. David Reid and Brigham Hansen each had two goals. Landon Berry added one. Zackary Townley added two assists in the game and goalie Thomas Barden made three saves.
Penn Yan Girls Soccer The Penn Yan girls soccer team tied with Waterloo, Friday, Sept. 3. The score was 2-2. Sierra Harrison recorded both goals for the Mustangs.
Penn Yan Tennis Penn Yan's girls tennis team lost to Geneva, 4-1, Wednesday, Sept. 1. Jayden Hollister for Penn Yan beat Geneva's Jana Fladd 6-3, 6-2.
Penn Yan Volleyball The Penn Yan volleyball team opened the season with a victory over Hammondsport, 3-0, Wednesday, Sept. 1. The game scores were 25-15, 25-12, 25-19.
Hammondsport Boys Soccer The Hammondsport boys soccer team defeated Friendship, 2-1, Wednesday, Sept. 1. The Lakers put up 25 shots with eight corner kicks. Alex Brown scored with an assist from Cooper Watson and Preston McConnell scored with an assist from Jacob Doyle.
Hammondsport Girls Soccer Hammondsport's girls soccer team fell to Campbell-Savona, Thursday, Sept. 2. The final score was 3-2. Scoring statistics were not available for the Lakers.
Hammondsport Volleyball The Hammondsport volleyball team improved to 1-1 on the season defeating Addison in five sets, 27-25, 25-19, 18-25, 22-25, 25-19, Friday, Sept. 3. At the service line, Holley Kolo and Emily Starkweather both had eight aces. Kolo was also strong at the net with seven kills followed by Danielle Bennett with five. Leah Starkweather had 17 setter assists. The Lakers lost to Penn Yan, 3-0, in the season opener, Wednesday, Sept. 1.
Watkins Glen Boys Soccer The Watkins Glen boys soccer team opened the season facing Waverly, Thursday, Sept. 2. Waverly won 7-0. The Senecas played the game a man down, or with 10 players. Coach Angela Cleveland said, "The boys played tough through the first half, going into halftime 1-0. During the second half [they] just ran out of gas." Sebastian Gates made 16 saves in the goal.
Watkins Glen Girls Soccer The Watkins Glen girls soccer team defeated Newfield at home, Friday, Sept. 3. The final score was 2-1 with an overtime victory. Abby Gibson scored both goals and goalie Lillian Ameigh made 13 saves. "We are still in the process of getting to know one another on the field, but we made great strides today on that front," said Coach Scott Morse. "I really liked our defense in the game." The girls lost their season opener 4-0 to Marathon, Wednesday, Sept. 1.
Odessa-Montour Boys Soccer The Odessa-Montour boys soccer team fell to Newark Valley, Thursday, Sept. 2. The final score was 8-1. Zach Rounds scored for Odessa.
