Falls Harvest Festival is this Saturday

MONTOUR FALLS--Despite the prospect of colder weather on the horizon, residents of Schuyler County will be able to celebrate the fall season at the Falls Harvest Festival in Montour Falls Saturday, Oct. 2. Like most events in the region, the Harvest Festival is coming back after a year off, and organizers are eager for visitors to return to Main Street.
"The Falls Harvest Festival committee has worked hard to put life into this event, as we know this has been a very difficult year," said Kim Pound, volunteer organizer of the Falls Harvest Festival. "We really wanted to make a splash and we are delighted to receive tremendous support from local businesses, organizations and residents."
The festival itself has been designed to be a family-friendly, day-long celebration of the harvest that is presented by Watkins Glen Promotions.
"We have a lot of the classic Harvest Festival traditions and some new and exciting additions too," said Pound.
Roughly 40 vendors, unique food, live entertainment and more will be capped off by an evening fireworks display over Shequaga Falls.
The events on Saturday will run from noon to 7 p.m. Live entertainment includes Nate the Great Juggling from 12 to 1 p.m.; Tanglewood Nature Center, 1 to 2 p.m.; Witches of the Southern Tier, 2 to 3 p.m.; Nate the Great Juggling, 3 to 4 p.m.; Leslie's School of Dance, 4 to 5 p.m.; Witches of the Southern Tier, 5 to 6 p.m. and a bonfire and fire performer from 6 to 7 p.m. The fireworks conclude the day at 7:15 p.m. There will also be ghost walks at 12:30, 2:30 and 4:30 p.m.
After many events in the area took a year off, Schuyler County Administrator Tim O'Hearn said it has been vital this year for them to return strong.
"As we welcome back large events this year, there is certainly a positive economic and community impact. Equally significant is recognizing that the return of events such as the Falls Harvest Festival represents this community's resilience and perseverance..."
As a volunteer Pound spends countless hours putting together the Fall Harvest Festival but in the end, her love of Montour Falls has made that an easy decision.
"I volunteer for this event because I love where I live, and I want everyone to experience the beauty and history of Montour Falls. I've made some amazing connections with businesses and organizations and am always amazed by their generosity and willingness to participate," added Pound.
