Youth program to host bowling this weekend

YATES COUNTY--Yates County children up to high school age are eligible to play two free bowling games Friday, Dec. 3 and Sunday, Dec. 5. The program is a part of Elevate Youth's Let's Go Bowling event at Brock's Bowl and Pizzeria in Penn Yan. An initiative of the Yates Community Center, Elevate Youth hosts and promotes programs they believe aid children in self-confidence, leadership, responsibility, respect, and volunteerism.
"Almost any successful sporting event or recreational activity relies upon service from others and instills self-confidence with opportunities to practice being a responsible and respectful growing leader," said Jenni Patchett, Elevate Youth Program Coordinator. "By collaborating with Brock's Bowl & Pizzeria, Elevate Youth is promoting an experience which strengthens and cultivates our core values and community."
The community response so far has been strong.
"(All the children I have spoken to) are very excited," said Patchett. "I met with a group of Dundee ninth graders, and they are stoked."
Taking over the position this past summer, Patchett said one of the initial goals was to continue long-standing partnerships.
A one-time event, Patchett said that events like Let's Go Bowling are predicated on individual grants and that as more grants and funding are available more events will be available.
"My goal is to create community events for fitness, fun and family," added Patchett.
Registration is required and must be completed by Wednesday, Dec. 1. If you are interested in signing up, call the Yates Community Center at 315-536-3354.
The first bowling event will take place on Friday, Dec. 3 from 2 to 4 p.m. with the second occurring Sunday, Dec. 5 from 3 to 5 p.m.
All bowlers will be given snacks and be entered to win a free birthday party at Brock's along with other prizes. Parents are required to remain while children bowl.
