Civil War reenactment returns
DUNDEE--The Dundee Historical Society will be hosting a Civil War reenactment at the Dundee VFW Saturday, Aug. 13 and Sunday, Aug. 14. The mission of the reenactment is to educate the public about the historical significance of the Civil War and its effect and influence on the history of the United States of America. There will be a variety of activities during the weekend including battles and skirmishes, surrenders, encampments including a swap meet, and demonstrations related to the war featuring infantry, artillery, cavalry, medical and even bands. The large field at the VFW will serve as the arena for the events throughout the weekend. The highlighted battles occur on Saturday at 11:30 a.m., 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. along with one on Sunday at 1 p.m. However, the camps open at 10 a.m. each day and offer a variety of different reenactments. The band High Country will be performing during the lunch hour on Saturday along with Crosswinds Farm & Creamery offering ice cream. The VFW Post 8649 is located at 125 Seneca St. in Dundee and will also be holding a chicken BBQ on Saturday.
