SPORTS RECAP: Week of 9-7-22
Schuyler Storm Football The Watkins Glen and Odessa-Montour football team opened the season on the road at Marcus Whitman, Friday, Sept. 2. The Schuyler Storm won 40-18. On the ground, Ryan Willett had seven carries for 45 yards and a touchdown. Thomas Snow also had seven carries for 25 yards and two touchdowns. Bradley Gillis added a 70-yard kickoff return to score. Alex Holmes made three catches for 114 yards and two touchdowns. Gillis recorded one catch for 51 yards. Quarterback Daniel Lewis was 6-for-11 with 206 yards and two touchdowns. Snow led the defense with 14 tackles, while Willett had nine and Nick D'Alleva four.
Swimming The Watkins Glen and Odessa-Montour swimming team defeated Dryden, Thursday, Sept. 1. The final score was 100-64. Recording first place finishes were: 200 medley relay team, Thalia Marquez (200 free, 500 free), Emily Melveney (200 IM), Faye Mooney (50 free), Kendra Fish (100 fly), Alannah Klemann (100 free, 100 back) and the 200 freestyle relay team.
Watkins Glen Boys Soccer The Watkins Glen boys varsity soccer team fell to Newfield, 7-0, Thursday, Sept. 1. Goalie Jake Vandereems had 14 saves in goal. Key defenders in the match were Max Ricca, Sam Hohle, Jaymes Forker, and Ross Pentz. The team also fell to Marathon, 14-0, Wednesday, Aug. 31. Vandereems had 27 saves in goal.
Girls Soccer The Watkins Glen girls soccer team defeated Marathon, Thursday, Sept. 1. The final score was 5-0. Sasha Honrath had two goals and one assist. Skye Honrath, Michaela Wheaton and Jennifer Gublo each scored once. Honrath added two assists. Goalkeeper Lilly Ameigh made seven saves for the team.
Odessa-Montour Boys Soccer The Odessa-Montour boys soccer team lost 2-1 to Tioga, Friday, Sept. 2.
Girls Soccer The Odessa-Montour girls soccer team beat Southern Cayuga, Friday, Sept. 2. The final score was 4-1.
Penn Yan Golf The Penn Yan golf team lost to Honeoye, 311-303, Friday, Sept. 2. Colin Johnson had the team low of 54. The boys beat Newark 325-324, Wednesday, Aug. 31. Johnson recorded a 55.
Boys Soccer The Penn Yan boys soccer team defeated Marcus Whitman, 3-0, Friday, Sept. 2. David Reid scored three times with assists from Carson Nagpaul, Landon Berry and Zackary Townley.
Girls Soccer The Penn Yan girls soccer team won over Red Jacket, Friday, Sept. 2. The final score was 9-0. Maihue Miranda-Wiltberger had three goals for Penn Yan. Morgan Andersen had two, as did Makenna Mullins. Adding one goal each were Hailey Hassos and Irelynd Densmore.
Girls Tennis The Penn Yan tennis team beat Midlakes, 5-0, Wednesday, Aug. 31. Rachael Garvey, Adelyn Emerson and Anella Tillman were all victorious in single matches. Rayna Rios with Natalie Koen and Amanda Smith with Erin Clancy won the two doubles matches. The team also fell to Mercy 5-0, Tuesday, Aug. 30
Dundee-Bradford Girls Soccer The Dundee-Bradford girls soccer team lost to Bloomfield, Thursday, Sept. 1. The final score was 2-1. Meredith Doan scored with an assist by Kendall Parker. Ellie Fleet made 12 saves.
Volleyball The BraveScots volleyball team opened their season with a win over Hammondsport, Thursday, Sept. 1. The team won in three sets, 25-19, 25-16 and 25-14. Lily Hall had 10 assists, five aces and three kills. Mikayla Schoffner added eight kills and three aces. Addie Kendall recorded four kills, six assists and five aces.
Hammondsport Boys Soccer The Hammondsport soccer team defeated Andover/Whitesville, 7-1, Friday, Sept. 2. Jakob Mueller recorded four goals in the game. Also scoring were TyChristopher Ritter, Cayden Casselbury and Alec Makitra. The team also beat Avoca-Prattsburgh, 2-1, Wednesday, Aug. 31. Ritter and Mueller both had goals.
Girls Soccer The Hammondsport girls soccer team opened the season with a loss, Friday, Sept. 2. The final score was 5-0.
Volleyball The Lakers volleyball team lost to Dundee-Bradford, Thursday, Sept. 1 in three sets. Seneca Boscoe contributed three aces and two kills, while Emily Starkweather added three aces. .
