SPORTS RECAP: Week of 1-18-23
Dundee-Bradford Boys Basketball The Dundee-Bradford boys basketball team defeated Bloomfield, 40-35, Thursday, Jan. 12. Leading scorers for the BraveScots were Cam Rosmier with 13 points, Ryan McTamney had 11, while Gabe Styles and Aidan Webster each scored four. Nick Slavick and Logan Buchanan combined over 20 rebounds and three points each. The team beat Campbell-Savona, Monday, Jan. 9. The final score was 54-36. Rosemier contributed 15 points and five rebounds. Webster added 12 points and McTamney scored 11.
Girls Basketball The Dundee-Bradford girls basketball team won over Bloomfield, 58-37, Friday, Jan. 13. Kailey Yeoman had 18 points with seven steals and four assists. Kendall Parker recorded 16 points with 10 rebounds and six steals. Mikayla Schoffner added 11 rebounds with 10 points and Addie Kendall had 10 rebounds and six points. The BraveScots beat Red Creek, 51-10, Wednesday, Jan. 11. Parker led with 17 points and four steals. Alissa Eaves contributed eight points and seven rebounds. Schoffner added seven points and eight rebounds.
Indoor Track The Dundee-Bradford indoor track team competed at the Wayne-Finger Lakes D2 Championships at RIT, Thursday, Jan. 12. The boys were fifth overall and the girls were ninth. Recording top-five finishes were: -Madison Hughes was first in the long jump (17' 4.25") and triple jump (33' 4.5") and also took fourth in the 55 meter dash. -Camden Buchanan was first in the 55 meter dash (6.96) and the long jump (21' 2.5"). -The boys 4x200 meter relay team was third. -Hayden Erick was third in the long jump.
Wrestling The Dundee-Bradford wrestling team repeated as the Finger Lakes West Champions this season with a win over Mynderse, 60-18, Saturday, Jan. 14. Recording pins in the match were Zach Grant, Connor Erick, Caden Hill, Hayden Erick and Gage Machuga.
Penn Yan Girls Basketball The Penn Yan girls basketball team lost to Newark, Friday, Jan. 13. The final score was 65-43. Individual stats were not reported.
Bowling The Penn Yan varsity bowling teams faced Geneva, Thursday, Jan. 12. Both teams saw victories 5-0. For the boys, Colin Johnson recorded a 596, Connor Andersen had a 588 and Jaxon Jensen added a 566. Anella Tillman led the girls with a 683. Lyanna Shipman had a 465 and Amenia Samatulski added a 431.
Wrestling The Penn Yan wrestling team lost to Geneva, 54-24, Tuesday, Jan. 10. Recording competitive wins were: Jacob Eaves (pin 2:57) and Cullen Maher (pin 3:39).
Hammondsport Boys Basketball The Hammondsport boys basketball team recorded two wins and one loss last week. The Lakers won over Scio/Friendship, 55-37 and Houghton, 47-27. The team fell to Haverling 53-27.
Girls Basketball The Hammondsport girls basketball team won a close game to Houghton Academy, 36-35, Thursday, Jan. 12. The team also defeated Alfred-Almond, 37-19, Wednesday, Jan. 11 and South Seneca, 38-30, Monday, Jan. 9.
Wrestling (Avoca-Prattsburgh/Hammondsport) The wrestling team lost to Canisteo-Greenwood, Tuesday, Jan. 10.
Watkins Glen Boys Basketball The Watkins Glen boys basketball team had a strong showing, Friday, Jan. 13 playing against Trumansburg. The Senecas won 70-39. David Kelly had 21 points in the game. Christopher Simiele scored 14, Joe Sutterby had 12 and Jacob Yontz had 11. Ryan Willett added 10 points. Yontz also earned 17 assists and 12 rebounds in the game. The basketball team defeated Addison, 66-42, Wednesday, Jan. 11. Sutterby led the offensive effort with 24 points. Willett had 12 points and Simiele added 10.
Girls Basketball The Watkins Glen girls basketball team topped Trumansburg, 63-22, Friday, Jan. 13. Chelsea Parsons scored 15 points and Addy Coolican had 11. Olivia King grabbed seven rebounds and contributed eight points. The team beat Candor, Tuesday, Jan. 10. The final score was 61-12. Rachel Vickio scored 15 points and Brianna Hatch had 14.
Bowling The Watkins Glen girls and boys bowling teams lost to Union Springs/Port Byron, Friday, Jan. 13. The girls lost 4-0 and the boys fell 3-1. Leading the teams were Ava Cowan (454) and Mykel Cody (505). The bowling teams both defeated Notre Dame, 4-0, Thursday, Jan. 12. Cowen and Cody again led the teams with a 532 and 530, respectively. The girls bowling team beat Newark Valley and the boys lost, Tuesday, Jan. 10. The girls won 4-0, with Katie Cook having a 454. The boys lost 4-0. Brett Cullen-Pike paced the team with a 490.
Swimming The Watkins Glen and Odessa-Montour swimming team faced Corning, Friday, Jan. 13. The Schuyler Storm lost 94-80. First-place finishes were recorded by: the 200 medley relay team, Vincent Ocasio (50 free and 100 free), Jon Spencer (100 breaststroke) and the 400 meter free relay team. The swim team beat Dryden, 96-54, Tuesday, Jan. 10. The 200 medley relay team was first, along with Spencer (200 free), Liam Smith (200 IM and 100 fly), Ocasio (50 free), Jeremiah Desrochers (diving), Ryan Dean (100 free), Caleb Reynolds (500 free) and the 200 free relay team.
Odessa-Montour Girls Basketball The Odessa-Montour girls basketball team lost to Marathon, 59-48, Friday, Jan. 13. Hannah Nolan recorded 19 points, seven rebounds and five steals. Gina Gavich added 15 points, while Reagan Reese had eight points and seven rebounds. O-M basketball player Keyonna Garrison, who suffered a stroke in the previous week, attended the game with the support of players, family and fans alike. Coach Greg Gavich commented on the game saying, "We had Keyonna here tonight which was fantastic. Was so badly hoping we could pull out a win tonight." The basketball team lost to Edison, Tuesday, Jan. 10. The final score was 54-34. Gavich had 14 points and Nolan earned six.
Boys Basketball The Odessa boys basketball team lost to Marathon, Friday, Jan. 13. The final score was 68-33. The boys won over Edison, 50-32, Tuesday, Jan. 10. Tyler Malnoske recorded 18 points in the game.
Wrestling The Odessa-Montour and Watkins Glen wrestling team competed at the annual Robert Bradshaw Invitational in Canandaigua last weekend. Jed Lynch finished fifth in the 160 pound division. Jackie Mace was sixth in the 120 pound weight class for the girls. Mark Waterman also earned two wins in the 145 weight class. The wrestling team beat Lansing, 48-28, Wednesday, Jan. 11. Competitive wins were earned by Tristan Harrington (pin 0:55) and Riley Yaw (pin 1:06)..
