ROCHESTER-Both the girls and boys Penn Yan varsity lacrosse teams captured sectional titles earlier this week. The girls won 12-4 over Waterloo-Marcus Whitman, Tuesday, May 30 and the boys won 11-6 against Aquinas, Wednesday, May 31.
The Lady Mustangs led 5-3 at halftime and added seven goals in the second on the way to the 12-4 victory. Bailey Cooper scored four goals. Maihue Miranda-Wiltberger added three, while Ruby Berry scored two. Corinne Barden recorded one goal and one assist; other goals came from Gianna Voigt and Lila Hansen. Taylor Mullins added two assists. Goalie Marion Wheeler posted five saves in the cage.
In the boys game, the team opened the scoring in the second quarter with three goals and then added four more in each of the third and fourth quarters to get to 11. Caden Dixon led with three goals. Braden Fingar contributed two goals and two assists. Bryant VanHousen also posted two goals and one assist. Tukker Fisher added two goals and Carter Earl had one also. Teagan Fingar helped the team with three assists and one goal. Anthony Druker also had an assist. In the goal, Will Thompson made 10 saves.
The girls will now play at Clarence high school, Saturday, June 3 at 3 p.m. The boys regional game will be at St. John Fisher College, Saturday, June 3 at 5:30 p.m. The teams the Mustangs will face were not yet available.
