PENN YAN--The public is invited to an open house at Penn Yan’s school-based health center, located at the Penn Yan Elementary School (3 School Drive, Penn Yan) on June 13, from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Brief remarks will be offered by Mary Zelazny, CEO of Finger Lakes Community Health; Leslie Church, chairperson of the Yates County Legislature; and the center’s medical director. Attendees will be able to meet the center’s providers and staff and tour the 1200-square-foot facility.
The center is a partnership between Finger Lakes Community Health and the Penn Yan school system. Students enrolled in Penn Yan are eligible to use the school-based health center. Parents must enroll children and give permission for services to be rendered without a parent being present. However, parents are welcome to attend appointments at the health center, either in-person or virtually. Children enrolled in the center may still see their regular family doctor, and Zelazny confirmed that parents are notified before any non-emergency treatment is provided.
The center includes two exam rooms, space for behavioral health/mental health counseling, a lab, restroom facilities, and a lobby area. The clinic will offer a full suite of services, including dental care, and practitioners are able to prescribe medicine. The Center was built by the school system. Operating expenses are supported by a New York state grant.
