WATKINS GLEN--The 30th Waterfront Festival and Cardboard Boat Regatta returns to Watkins Glen Saturday, June 17, at the Seneca Harbor Park. Festivities start at 11 a.m. with vendors, music, and children’s activities. In addition, attendees are invited to stroll through the Concourse de Cardboard to view the boats before the regatta begins at 2 p.m. Admission to the event is free.
“The vending space sold out this year in record time,” said Michaela Christensen, executive director of Watkins Glen Promotions. “The busiest time of the festival is from 1 to 4, but the waterfront is hopping until we close.”
Currently, 20 boats are entered in the regatta. Organizers expect registrations will continue to come in through the week. They’re excited about the entries, this year’s themes, and are pleased to welcome several scout troops to the competition. Awards will be presented for “best sinking,” “best theme,” and “fastest time,” among others.
Food, beverages, craft, and non-profit vendors are expected. Attendees can purchase tickets for a cooler and adult beverage raffle by the boat registration area, with the possibility of winning one of four prizes. Proceeds from the raffle will be used to support the 2024 Festival, which is one of four annual events presented by Watkins Glen Promotions.
Local favorite band Bad Bear will play from 5 to 8 p.m. They are a classic rock/funk band that plays throughout the Twin Tiers and the Finger Lakes.
