WATKINS GLEN--Drivers will race at Watkins Glen International (WGI) from June 22 to June 25, as the IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship returns to the region with the Sahlen’s Six Hours of the Glen.
This is the third event in the Michelin Endurance Challenge that brings top drivers and leading prototype and GT manufacturers to Schuyler County. Throughout the weekend, attendees can enjoy nearly 24 hours of racing, including the Michelin Pilot Challenge, the MX-5 Cup, the Porsche Carrera Cup, and the Lamborghini Super Trofeo. The IMSA Michelin Endurance Cup is a four-race competition. The Rolex 24 held at Daytona kicks off the series. Racers then head to Florida for the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring. After this weekend’s race at WGI, racers finish the battle in Georgia with the final event: the Motul Petit Le Mans.
This championship series features two types of cars: prototypes and GTs. According to organizers, prototypes showcase the latest automotive technology and are specifically designed for racing. GTs are road-going models. These two car styles combine to form five classes: the Grand Touring Prototype, the Le Mans Prototype 2, Le Mans Prototype 3, GT Daytona Pro, and the GT Daytona.
