WATKINS GLEN— The fourth annual Schuyler County Farm Tour Weekend returns Friday, Sept. 29 through Sunday, Oct. 1. Schuyler County farms are once again opening their doors to the public, offering tours, tastings, hayrides, demonstrations, apple picking, shopping, and opportunities to meet the farm animals.
The family-friendly event offers authentic farm experiences organized by the Cornell Cooperative Extension of Schuyler County and a collaboration with the Watkins Glen Area Chamber of Commerce. These open houses offer a wide range of goods for purchase, including hand-crafted cheeses, produce, apples, veggies, jams, cider, donuts, pies, and even alpaca products.
“We started the Farm Tour Weekend in 2020 with a dozen participating farms,” said Brett Chedzoy, senior resource educator at CCE. “And with the continued support from the Watkins Glen Area Chamber of Commerce and our farm community, the tour has continued to grow.”
This year’s event will include a Friday night reception at Chateau La Fayette Reneau. Attendees will have the opportunity to enjoy tours of the vineyard, light appetizers, door prizes, and a preview of items that will be available for purchase during the tour. It is recommended to make reservations for Friday evening on the CCE Schuyler Facebook page.
Some of the farms already listed as participants include: Apples and Moore, Cornell Maple Program at the Arnot Forest, The Burdett Exchange, Crosswinds Farm and Creamery, Finger Lakes Cider House, Four Season Alpacas & Rug Weaving, Muddy Fingers Farm, Ort Family Farm, Russell’s Alpaca Acres, Shtayburne Farm Creamery, Sunset View Creamery and Yesterday’s Roots.
Updates will also be listed on the Farm Tour Weekend website and Facebook page.
