Yates HHW day
YATES COUNTY--The Yates County Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day was held Saturday, Sept. 23 at the fairgrounds in Penn Yan. This year’s event took in waste from over 300 registered participants and the collection ensures the responsible disposal of items such as chemicals like old gasoline or water-based paints and e-waste items such as old televisions or computers. The event was available to residents of Yates or Schuyler County.
Highlights from the event:
• Electronic Waste Recycling: Residents recycled their old electronic devices, preventing them from ending up in landfills. In total, approximately 12,000 pounds of electronic waste was responsibly recycled.
• Paint Recycling: 14 cubic yards of paint were collected of which about half were deemed fit for recycling, ensuring that the harmful chemicals in paint did not seep into soil or contaminate our water sources.
Household Hazardous Waste Collection Days are held each year and are available to residents by pre-registering.
