YATES COUNTY-During a special legislative meeting, the Yates County Legislature unanimously approved the highway superintendent’s request to compensate vendors and contractors for various costs associated with trucking, water treatment, equipment rental, disposal, maintenance, and other various costs at the building project in Benton for the new Yates County Highway, Office of Emergency Services and Public Health Facility.
The budget for the project included a 5 percent project contingency worth $975,104.20. This contingency fund is meant to cover any unexpected expenses that may arise during the project.
While excavating various site utilities, the site work contractor discovered additional contaminated soils, which were then removed and stockpiled under the direction of C&S Engineers. Additionally, contaminated groundwater was encountered during the same excavations, and it had to be pumped and collected for future treatment and disposal.
The approved compensation amount should not exceed $165,000 and will be allocated from the contingency funds.
