WATKINS GLEN-The 10th Year of The Arc Grand Prix Run/Walk Event will be held Saturday, Nov. 4. The event is presented by Watkins Glen International and Chemung Canal Trust Company and raises money for The Arc of Chemung-Schuyler. The race is a 3.4-mile course on the historic motor racing track in Watkins Glen. Additionally, there is a 1-mile “Pit Road Walk” option for those who prefer a shorter distance.
“This is the 10th year for The Arc Grand Prix Run/Walk Event, and we could not have done it without the support of our event participants, volunteers, Watkins Glen International, and our local community sponsors,” said Missy Goetschius, director of marketing and community development at The Arc of Chemung-Schuyler. “This inclusive charity event continues to succeed in raising much-needed funds to support programs offered by The Arc of Chemung-Schuyler, benefiting more than 2,000 individuals, and their families, with intellectual and developmental disabilities and autism, in Chemung and Schuyler Counties, and beyond.”
There are two registration options for participants. The first option is called The Track, which is a 3.4-mile timed course covering the full distance of the WGI race track, including “the boot.” The second option is called The Pit Road, which is a 1-mile untimed course designed for those who prefer to walk or run a shorter distance. However, they still get to experience an “up close and personal” view of a portion of the track. The Pit Road course offers a view of victory lane and loops back to the finish line via pit road. Participants of the pit road course will not cross the timing mat, but they will conclude at the finish line along with participants of the track course.
Packet pickup for the race will take place at the Arnot Mall’s Center Court under the escalators on Thursday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. On Saturday, the WGI Gate will open at 6:00 a.m. Participants can pick up their packets at 7:00 a.m. The race will start at 8:00 a.m. and end at 9:30 a.m.
Goetschius emphasized that the success of this event simply wouldn’t be made possible without the support of community members, and that they look forward to many more years to come.
Since its inception in 2014, Watkins Glen International has proudly presented the Arc Grand Prix Run/Walk event. The event raises funds to support people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
