Motorist flees scene of horse and buggy crash
RUSHVILLE--The Ontario County Sheriff's Office is asking for help from the public to gather more information about a crash involving a pickup truck and a horse and buggy, Wednesday, Aug. 25. The department has called the event a hit and run personal injury accident after the driver of the vehicle "fled from the scene." Anyone with information regarding the vehicle involved or who witnessed the accident is asked to contact the sheriff's office at 585-394-4560. According to a press release from the Ontario County Sheriff's Office, on Wednesday, Aug. 25, deputies responded to a crash on State Route 245, in the Town of Gorham around 3:20 p.m. Annetta Fox, 53, and Roseanna Fox, 18, of Gorham were traveling southwest on State Route 245 when their horse and buggy was struck from behind by a pick-up truck that fled from the scene. Annetta suffered injuries to the lower body and was transported by Canandaigua Ambulance to Strong Memorial Hospital, while Roseanna suffered injuries to her head and back and was airlifted by Mercy Flight. The suspect vehicle is described as a dark green Chevy pickup truck with a translucent white water tank in the bed. The horse ran off but was captured in the area and later had to be euthanized. State Route 245 between Baldwin Road and Main Street in Rushville was closed for about an hour and a half. The Ontario County Sheriff's Office was assisted by Rushville Fire, Middlesex Ambulance, Canandaigua Ambulance, Ontario County OEM, Mercy Flight and the Yates County Sheriff's Office. The investigation into the cause of the crash continues.
