Happy Holidays! The Observer and the REVIEW&EXPRESS each published a combined holiday edition with the dates of Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2024 and Wednesday, Dec. 25, 2024. There is not a new paper for Dec. 25. The next new edition is Wednesday, Jan. 1.
The office is closed on Monday, Dec. 23 and will reopen Thursday, Jan 2.

Peebles will close; new store planned

PENN YAN--The Peebles store in Penn Van is closing. Peebles parent company, Stage, based in Houston, Texas, plans to convert the space into their company's off-price store brand, Gordmans. Stage's Brand Publicity Manager Blakely Graham said, "We are planning to convert the Peebles locations in Penn Yan and Geneva to Gordmans stores in early 2020."
Blakely said Gordmans is known for, "popular name brand apparel, home decor, footwear, gifts, accessories, fragrances and more for the whole family." Blakely added Gordmans has been serving shoppers for more than 100 years.
Blakely said all current Peebles associates will be offered jobs at Gordmans. The Penn Yan Peebles store is currently running a "Store Closing Sale" and employees said the store will be open through the holidays.
Stage Stores, Inc. operates off-price and department stores. Their department store brands include Bealls, Goody's, Palais Royal, Peebles and Stage. Stage Stores acquired Peebles, Inc. in 2003 which operated in 17 states with 136 stores.
Stage entered the off-price retail market with the Gordman acquisition in 2017. The company announced their long-term strategy to convert many of their department stores to Gordmans mostly in small, midwest markets with a goal of reaching 300 total off-price stores by mid-2020.
