Watkins Glen six-hour race is Sunday

WATKINS GLEN--Racing will return to Watkins Glen with the upcoming Sahlen's Six Hours of The Glen this weekend. The sports cars will comprise the largest field since 2014 to take on the Watkins Glen International road course. A total of 49 cars from five classes will be on the track for the six-hour endurance race in the seventh event of the IMSA Michelin Endurance Cup.
"WGI has always been a great partner with the village," said Watkins Glen Mayor Luke Leszyk. "They are not only important to our economy but that of the region as a whole. We are very excited to see them up and running at full speed (and) we look forward to the upcoming Sahlen's race as well as the numerous other events this year."
On the track, Sahlen's will mark the first time since March when all five classes of car will be in competition together.
The Sahlen's Six Hours is the third of four events comprising the IMSA Michelin Endurance Cup. Teams rack up points at designated junctures of each endurance race separate from the season championship and points at Watkins Glen (five for being in first place in class, four points for second place, three points for third and two points for all others) will be awarded at the halfway mark and conclusion of the six-hour race. As it stands, the competition in the Michelin Endurance Cup is extremely close in all classes, with no team or driver leading by more than four points.
Sahlen's will also mark a return of Ferrari of sorts, with the No. 62 Risi Competizione Ferrari 488 GT3 that finished second in the Rolex 24 at Daytona, while the No. 47 Cetilar Racing Ferrari that won the GTD class at Sebring in March is back as well.
Those in attendance and watching on TV will be treated to an assortment of great racing that will include cars from Honda, to Cadillac, Ferrari, Porsche, Lamborghini and more.
